How Old Are You? (And are you happy being your age?)
I'll soon be 44... it's much better than any other age I've been. I'm happy here.

Previous ages are fun to recollect (mostly)... but I'd never relive them.

5. I'll be 40 this summer
I guess there's a lot of benefits to being my age. I'm done having kids (yes I know this for sure). My son is just a couple of years from college. I've had my job for a long time, lots of seniority, lots of benefits.

I do wish I'd have found someone to share my life with by now. It's not the end of the world, but it'd be nice.

Currently 43 and happy. Ok, I have to admit I love it when people say they can't believe it or when they look at my 6'5" son and refuse to believe he's mine, but I like where I'm at too much to go back to the age they think I am.

I never got carded in NY or anywhere else I've lived. :)

Here, though, I get carded 50% of the time. It's really odd. A couple of times they've been sure the ID is not mine. It does make me feel good though, as superficial as that is.

14. 37 and anxious about it.
I don't "feel" any different from when I was in my twenties. And other than a few grays (only noticeable up close), I look the same.

I may be on the verge of mid-life crisis though, 'cause I am bothered by the thought of getting older.

with a little age comes more self assurance & knowledge. You're also less afraid to stake your own mental & spiritual territory - regardless of what others think. The best part is the release from the constant need to be "accepted."

31. I'll be 49 in about a week - Good Lord
and I'm VERY happy with it.

As you get older, you gain more confidence and wisdom. You realize what's really important in life. Things that bothered you, or seemed like life and death in your teens, twenties and thirties don't seem like that big a deal anymore. You get your priorities straightened out.

I've had an incredible life and a fantastic, exciting career. The ups and downs were extreme at times but, hey, I'm still here. My family has been supportive of me in every aspect, I married a great guy, I have a roof over my head, food in my stomach and the bills get paid every month. I can't think of a better generation to grow old with than my fellow baby boomers.

And if I died tomorrow, I'd go contentedly. :)

For the longest time I held on to the belief that my weight gain was temporary. I'm a little soft in the middle... so I do miss my 25 year old body.

But then again... I was smoking like crazy back then too. Perhaps that explains a lot.

36. 39 in 20 days
I guess I am happy. The only thing is that if I could go back a few years, I might be able to save my mother - who died suddenly from heart attack (?) or bloot clot (?). If I were a few years younger, it would be before her death and I might be able to warn her and cause her to get help.

Other than that, I am happy being my age.

96. Anyone over thirty
is SOL in the film industry, in front of the camera or behind it (unless you are REALLY well established). Same with commercial art; twentysomethings are considered "hip" while thirtysomethings are "past their creative primes". My immeadiate supervisor is about 24 and has been in this industry 6 months. I've been doing it 20 years, am repected company wide, am considered the better artist...but I'm old. :-(

One of my best friends is a former supermodel. She's older than me and is having a REALLY hard time with the aging process.

As for whether I'm cool with my age, for the most part, yes, but there is a part of me that will be relieved when I turn 30, because then I will be out of the "under-30" demographic that supposedly doesn't vote or follow politics, and those hip/hop ads and "Rock the Vote" campaigns will no longer be talking to me.

44. I don't like to give my age. It's not a vanity thing, - mostly -
:7 I suppose there could be a little of that, - it's just that I hate being compartmentalised. I dislike having someone stuff me into a category by age while on mental autopilot.

I'm often told I look much younger than I am. I regularly get carded for alcohol, and my 19 year old students have been known to make passes at me.

I'm happy at this age. I have no urges to go back and relive my foolish youth. I can't stay up all night and party like I once did, but then, the appeal for that has diminished substantially as well.

53. 32 - Content with my age.
Most people say I look younger, but sometimes I feel like I've lived about 64 years in my 32. Not because I've been wild, free, and packed in so much fun, but basically the opposite. I've felt old inside for a long time. I was older ten years ago than I am today in a sense. Age is a subjective thing and the older you get, the more you realize how much you DON'T know.

57. I'm a few months older than you are, Allen
44 has its advantages. The only part I regret is that it's starting to show in my face. I want the skin I had at 25 back. I do not want the brain I had at 25 back; I was one screwed-up individual and I've worked through a lot of that crap. Wouldn't want to do that again, it was hard enough the first time!

I can keep the bod in pretty fair shape (although aches and pains last longer than they used to), but there's not much you can do to keep your skin from starting to sag and wrinkle.

THe naso labials just made their appearance this year. Nothing drastic, but they're there and I know what they'll become and I'm reminded every time I look at them.

Then there's the damage I did by sunbathing all those years...why on earth did I think I had to have a tan?

70. Hi Pol... Welcome To DU
I believe you're on to something. Maturity and physical age are not necessarily dependent on one another and don't always correlate as we would expect them to.

Or... it could be that the feisty ones just don't bother to come into the lounge and respond to boring age/happiness threads like this one. They like the adrenaline rush from the fast-paced and argumentative threads.

Just a guess... I don't know for certain.

Anyway, I hope you find your way around and that you quickly start to feel at home here at DU.

94. Hello Fellow Gemini!
I just turned 34 on the 24th. Happy as can be. I think for women, the 30 mark maybe scary at first but, let me tell ya, you get "more comfortable in your own skin" so to speak. I think that women come to know themselves much more.

98. One of my dearest friends of all time was born 5-25
But he didn't make it to 50. I wouldn't presume to tell anyone to count his blessings, but....:)

I knew a man close to 80 who said he felt just like he did when he was 18, and the person he saw in the mirror was always a great surprise to him. So I guess it's a universal condition.

BTW, happy birthday!

If not, work toward changing what you're unhappy with. If you are happy, then tell everyone who has expectations of you that you are happy, and to leave you alone.

Other great ages:
