Anyone else creeped out by the GD forum? |
|
Hey folks- I told myself I was going to avoid DU for a week so my stress level would go down, but I'm just a sucker for punishment.:P My question to the lounge lizards is: does the GD forum creep you out sometimes? It seems as if lately its nothing but tinfoil hatters. When you try to give a rational basis for disagreement, you are accused of not being "real," or of blowing off the possibility of weather-changing machines, British military in Mexican caves, or holographic Jesuses. I have to admit, when I hear a conspiracy theory, there is a part of me that goes "What if?". Problem is, I've been doind a lot of "what-if" thinking lately. Perhaps I'm just overanxious. Anyone else feel this way?

1. Naaah...considering the worst doesn't creep me out half as much |
|
as people who don't consider any of it because they couldn't confront if it were true.
I evaluate everything for myself and go from there.

2. I stay out of the tinfoil threads |
|
except to post the occasional "Why?." It gets people out of the what if it is/what if it isn't" loop.

For gods' sake stay out of the Israel/Palestine room. It's dangerous in there.

I had a bad experience there and now avoid it like the plague. At least, I rarely post there. Sometimes I go there to see what's going on.

|
they DO control the British military's weather changing machines, you know!

Seriously, the place has been getting on my nerves too. So I just stay the hell out of there.

8. Yeah...you summed my feelings up pretty well... |
|
Sometimes going in there makes me fear that there is little difference between us and the freeps.
Sadly enough this, a liberal democrat message board is the one place where I"m guaranteed to be made to feel like less of a liberal rather than being comfortable with people who are supposed to be open minded and more or less on the same side as me.

Frankly, it gets too much like a bunch of teenagers on a testosterone jag. Not only is it populated with a fair number of nutcase posts, but there doesn't seem to be any real discussion. I am very disappointed.

12. Pol, you have to learn to filter heavily |
|
the best resource is probably the Latest Breaking News forum; you'll find links to news you won't get elsewhere. But yeah, a lot of times substantive discussion gets drowned out by name-calling, conspiracy theories, and threads about pubic hair.

Whenever I go to GD, I sift through the bull to find threads about whacko fundamentalist Christians.
