Anyone have a good recipie for hummus? |
|
Please don't tell me to buy the stuff in the store! I've been slowly changing my diet. I'm trying to ween myself off of red meat and chicken to something more vegtable based and making a steak or chicken breast more of an occasional thing. I've been trying some recipies for bean soups and the like. Some are really good, some are not. Any way, some freshly made hummus seems to be something I would like to try.
Help me before I head out to Burger King or KFC!
Thanx!

not if you are in Clovis NM and starving for some crackers with hummus. I got SUCH a case of food poisoning that way... really enjoyed the 200 miles of driving the next morning. not.

These amounts are approximate. I don't have the recipe with me.
1 can of garbanzo beans. 1/2 cup of sun-dried tomatoes A couple of cloves of garlic, or equivalent garlic paste. Lemon juice to taste. 1/4 tsp salt. About half the juice from the garbanzo beans.
Put it all in a food processor and puree it.
Then play with the recipe until you get the taste right.

Thank You Don Claybrook! And Garlic! This rocks! If it was up to me I'd use garlic enough to sink a supertanker!
Thanks Guy!

4. Sundried tomatoes? Never! And where's the tahini? Here's your recipe: |
|
Hommos Dip
1 can garbanzo (chick, ceci) beans, drained 3 or so Tablespoons Tahini (sesame seed paste) ¼ - ½ cup lemon juice 1-3 cloves garlic, mashed fine ½ teaspoon salt water
Mash garlic well with salt in a mortar and pestle. If not available just chop very finely. Add to garbanzos in blender with tahini, a little lemon juice and a little water. Blend and if too thick add a little more water. Taste and blend, adding more lemon, garlic, water or salt to taste.
When its perfect, put in a dish, garnish with parsley, add a little olive oil to the top and serve with pocket bread.
This is an authentic recipe, not Americanized in any way!
