My cat made a toy out of a cherry
Pad Thai stole a cherry from my bowl last night and started playing with it. Next he was carrying it around by the stem and wanting me to throw it for him. I kept throwing and he kept bringing it back (strong stem on that cherry!) It was so cute.

Do your cats make toys and games out of things in their environment, your food?

1. Abbott loves my empty water bottles
I like to have a cup of water by my bed at nighttime, but Abbott started to drink out of the cup. So I switched to a bottle of water instead. I never bothered to figure out what happened to the empties until I cleaned under the bed and there was over a dozen empty water bottles.

Abbott loves empty water bottles - he'll play with one for hours on end.

And yes Matcom, I now clean under my bed!!!

6. Not anymore
He has his water dish. You surely don't see me sharing his water or food dish (although he does share from Abbott).

3. green olives and my make-up brush
they like to lay on the floor and "put on blush". Good thing I don't really wear much make-up anymore!

4. Pepper will make a toy out of anything
He loves my daughter's hair barettes. But his absolute favorite is a Dunkin' Donuts iced coffee straw. Turn your back on your iced coffee, and he will be on it in a hot minute. He pulls the straw right out of the plastic lid, and he is GONE.

8. We had a cat that would fetch SW Airlines swizzle sticks.
The old ones, with the heart-shaped logo on the end. She sould only fetch those. She might play with other swizzle sticks, but she wouldn't fetch them.

10. We start threads like this and it makes me miss my cats even more
I wish I could bring one or both of them to work. I think I could be a more productive working with Abbott sitting on my lap snuggling with me as I compute numbers!

11. My dad's balled up old cigarette packages
When I was little, my dad used to crush them up, and our cat Tiger would bat them around. He liked the crackly sound on the cellophane.

Every time we cleaned house we'd find them under chairs, tables, couches, and jammed in corners.

12. Small pieces of bologna or beef.
I don't know why, but small pieces of meat Periwinkle doesn't eat become playthings.
Pork, ham or fake crab legs she'll eat. But anything else gets batted around for hours.

13. Pop bottle caps
When I take them off the bottle before recycling (why won't they take the tops??) the cat's right there meowing for them. When give them to her she carries them to the bathroom and plays with them on the floor.

14. Link to an anecdote of mine ...
that I wrote when I used to hang out in the Usenet 'rec.pets.cats.anecdotes' newsgroup. It was published by one of the group members years ago. Check out the rest of her site, if you like cat stories -- she archived a lot of the stuff from the newsgroup back when I was participating (presumably still does).

The funniest thing about our cats is that they will play with something one night for hours, then show no interest in it the next time.
