Cassandras (A rant for the 10%ers)
Sigh....

Hey-ho, all you 10%ers out there. It's been some time since I last spoke to you all directly.

Once again, sigh....

Doesn't it suck being right?

Bush is burning up as I type (as many of us thought he'd do...eventually). The rats are leaving the ship. And the press and the public seem to be coming out of their coma.

Oh, it's too early to know how it's all doing to go down. I don't think any of us have had a "vision" of that. But it's starting to come to a head now. There's still a chance we might end up with a Scorched Earth policy from Bush, should he be kicked out.

Hugs to you all, those who stood against the masses of uninformed opinion.

2. Throw hundreds of darts, and only take credit for what hits the bullseye?

:D

Sorry--there have been good conspiracy threads here that do seem to objectively review things, but it seems every time I see a DU conspiracy theory that actually turns out to be accurate, there are at least four others that simply haven't panned out. EMP on Wellstone's plane, for example, was a good one of the latter.

6. conspiracy?
Sorry, you're reading something into this thread that's not there. This is about a group of people...nicknames and such, so it's a "in-joke". You either get it or you don't.

But this isn't a conspiracy thread.

8. Please don't start that again
thank god for the ignore threads feature. I've lost track of the number of conspiracy threads (eg. Berg video) that I've got shut off.

3. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...
but I believe that most of us here would be considered a 10%er... It refers (I think) to the days right after 9/11 when bush's approval ratings were 90%, leaving only 10% that realized that bush was still the same asshole he had been a few days before, regardless of what had happened. Many of whom feared what bush would use that tragedy as an excuse to do... but I could be completely wrong about the meaning...

5. Whoops! In that case I'm one of them!
I was thrown off by the 'Cassandra' bit, because we do have some member who think the walls are bleeding every two minutes (sometimes they are absolutely right).

But yes, I did not approve of Bush even in the 9/11 aftermath.

9. Yeah, that's why I use the term
Near 9/11 someone called the 10%ers Cassandras as an insult.

Like I said above, "in joke". Sorry, forums are populated with "in-jokes" (See MATCOMS Ass ;-) )

4. A 10%er comes from the time on DU
Just after 9/11 when all of Bush's poll numbers were near 90%. If you weren't here then, go back and check the DU posts from that time period. We actually had people defending Bush for a bit here...but then he came through and fucked things up like many of us knew he'd do.

A 10%er is someone who realized that Bush was still the same guy he was on Sept 12 that he was on Sept 10.

DU had a hard time on Sept 11th. For a bit there, it looked like there might be no reason for DU to exist anymore, but before the day was even over we started to see Bush fucking things up again...so some of us stood by.

Many of us who did have always expressed this idea that Bush is going to leave office as one of the most disgraced politicians ever...so that's why I call us Cassandras...a bit of a joke.

7. In my own bit of prognosticating, I think he'll leave like Reagan
His scandals will be widely known, and they will be connected to him no matter what by people who know their business. Plausible deniability will be the refuge for others, who think that Bush is still a hero for fighting a war, protecting us after 9/11, etc. After a few decades, we might have some perspective on him and throw him in the historical dustbin where he belongs.

12. Hey Khephra, there is no joy in being right again.
I pull out my letters to the editor and congresscritters from after 9/11 when I was looking for one brave soul to stand up against the pipeline war in Afghanistan and just shake my head.

People I argued with vehemently about Afghanistan and Iraq a few years ago now have to admit I was right. WOOHOO! What joy is there in being right when the people are still dead or maimed.

Although I now fully understand fictional characters like Paul in Dune. The future may be "seen" and "understood"...but it's so damn hard to change.

These Neocons are as regular as a clock. If you study their methods, you learn how they'll fuck up. They're an ideology that allows prediction--there's nothing "supernatural" about it. Read Perl's book. It's all spelled out there.

13. I feel no vindication in being right
and being in Texas I knew all about this fraud long before most of the ten percenters. Too many people are paying the ultimate price to celebrate.

"Doesn't it suck being right?"

I'd rather have been wrong and Bush be a GREAT wartime President.

Ha.
