Man Visits Strip Club - Man Sues Over $129,000 Strip Club Bill
Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 04:45 PM by matcom
<snip>

JUNE 3--A New York City man is suing Gotham's leading gentlemen's club, claiming that his credit cards were billed a whopping $129,626 for a seven-hour stay last year at the East Side strip joint, The Smoking Gun has learned.

That's right, $129,626! Did we mention the bill totaled $129,626? According to the below lawsuit, filed May 27 in State Supreme Court, Tauhidul Chaudhury and three friends arrived at the Scores nightclub last October 23 at 9 PM.

The quartet drank in the club's bar area until 11 PM, when Chaudhury's cronies departed. Though Chaudhury--a Bangladeshi national who remained at Scores alone until the club closed at 4 AM--was "clearly and obviously intoxicated," Scores employees continued "supplying Chaudhury with the alcoholic beverages and other services, including causing Chaudhury to be admitted into a private room."

The complaint does not describe those additional "services" (or any Champagne Room ministrations), but lap dances must have been on the menu.

1. You play, you pay.
Sorry, that's the commercial sex trade. If you want a cheap trick, hit the streets.

I have NO sympathy. I just hope the girls got a good percentage of it in tips!

2. Most places give the girls a % of the champagne price
Thats why they are so eager to get the guys to buy them champagne.

4. I knew that...
my other hat is "sex-worker's rights activist."

I just hope the percentage was good.

A night like that could pay for a college education!

3. About 10 years ago
a friend of mine spent about 3k at a club in Atlanta. I knew he was out of control and he wouldn't listen to me. I asked the club manager to cut him off and he told me to go to hell. I think the club takes on some responsibility in these types of situations.

You know what they say "The Hard-On is a Lonely Hunter".

5. Was he an adult, or not?
The only responsibility a club has in such a situation is to not charge for any service not asked for and rendered, in my opinion.

A strip club manager is not his mommy. Period.

If you go into a strip club with more than a couple hundred in cash in your pockets (never with a credit card!!!) you are foolish. (Or you have good sales resistance.)

6. I guess the court will decide!
Taking advantage of an inebriated patron to the tune of 129k might be considered negligence.

8. If you drive drunk...
no matter how drunk, you are 100% liable for your actions.

I'll bet you a cup of coffee at Starbucks that the plaintiff loses this one, and has to pay court costs for the defendant as well.

9. That's not true
The bartender that didn't cut him off is also liable! (sound familiar).

Your on for the bet (if we can remember) -:)

12. It's a new record! The previous recordholder,
an insurance executive (!) named Mitchell Blaser, dropped a paltry $28,000 at Scores, just last December.

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/040520/80/eu4ja.html

Mitchell Blaser, who is the Chief Financial Officer of the Americas division of insurer Swiss Re, filed suit on Tuesday demanding that strip club Scores pay back the $28,000 because that does not accurately reflect his spending at the Manhattan nightspot.

But a Scores spokesman said that, during his December visit, Blaser ordered five magnums of the club's most expensive champagne, a 1990 Krug Clos du Mesnil, for $3,200 each. He also spent $7,000 for lap dances and the company of 12 girls who surrounded him for hours.

In his lawsuit filed with the Supreme Court in Manhattan, Blaser said he and his friend were intimidated into signing an invoice for $8,615 by Scores' staff, which threatened to keep his credit card. Scores then tacked on an additional $4,000 gratuity without his signature, the suit said. It also said Blaser promptly complained to American Express.

A $28,000 tab, while sky high, is not unheard of at Scores, Hanover said. The club has catered to foreign heads of state, athletes and Wall Street executives. But he said this was the first time anyone ordered more than one bottle of its most expensive champagne.

But not the last, apparently... one wonders if the unfortunate Mr. Chaudhury read of Blaser's escapades and decided to be a copycat!
