Poll question: Who do you like?
Each one of these Cale guys has made his own significant contribution to music.

Which one do you like and why?

4. The other one...
John Cale was the bass player for a little-known group called the Velvet Underground.

He went on to a so-so solo career...

5. A lot of people don't know
that JJ Cale originally recorded the song "Cocaine" which was a big hit for Eric Clapton.

8. Uh -- he also played viola.
Better than bass, FWIW.

And recited "The Gift" on White Light/White Heat

13. Well... maybe it was "The Black Angel's Death Song"
It has been years since I heard that album... vinyl, no cd.

14. No, that was Lou, too.
Cale sang "The Gift" and "Lady Godiva's Operation" on White Light/White Heat. Everything on The Velvet Underground and Nico was sung by either Lou or Nico.

6. Listen to Nico's "The Marble Index."
John Cale was great in the Velvets. But that was Reed's band, really. On The Marble Index, he really came into his own as an arranger, a conductor, and a performer.

Fucking genius.

Oh, yeah -- and listen to "Fear Is a Man's Best Friend" -- one of my favorite songs ever.
