Each one of these Cale guys has made his own significant contribution to music.

John Cale was the bass player for a little-known group called the Velvet Underground.
He went on to a so-so solo career...

8. Uh -- he also played viola. |
|
Better than bass, FWIW.
And recited "The Gift" on White Light/White Heat

14. No, that was Lou, too. |
|
Cale sang "The Gift" and "Lady Godiva's Operation" on White Light/White Heat. Everything on The Velvet Underground and Nico was sung by either Lou or Nico.

6. Listen to Nico's "The Marble Index." |
|
John Cale was great in the Velvets. But that was Reed's band, really. On The Marble Index, he really came into his own as an arranger, a conductor, and a performer.
Fucking genius.
Oh, yeah -- and listen to "Fear Is a Man's Best Friend" -- one of my favorite songs ever.
