1. They died in Sweden on Sept. 27, 1986.
They were all killed instantly when their tour bus overturned on them.

7. Newstead is no Burton
He was average in Flotsam and Jetsam,he was average in Metallica,he was average on the new VoiVod,and I fully suspect he'll be average with Ozzy (though in that he wont be alone :) ).

Trujillo shows some promise.I was one of the few who liked St Anger (no solos? This punk fan says,"About time!".Damn puffy shirted knuckleheads and thier solos....pffffft!).

But they haven't been the same without Burton. He gave them a quirkiness that they have lacked since he died. All too many of thier songs were predictable and formulaic to me after Burton died.

Ride the Lightning and Master though are deserving of classic status.

So I guess I dont love them, but I dont hate them either (unless they release more crap like the aptly named Load).

As for the internet stuff,I dont care.I copied thier CDs anyways :D

4. You're close...They died after "Justice"
Although the Cliff Burton death was the first sign of illness. Nothing beats Kill 'Em All

8. No, I hate them. Sellout poser scum.
Metallica died with Cliff but they had one more good album in them with Justice. Everything else has been commercial sellout trash except St. Anger which is just trash. Fuck them, fuck them with a sharp stick.

11. Still love them.
I actually like the new album as well. It's definitely different and as far as comparing them to the old school Metallica, it's not worth it. All groups grow and change. It's just part of the ride. I don't think the fact that Cliff is with them or not changed them as much as some might think. What changed their sound to more mainstream rock/metal was when Bob Rock started producing their albums. Still though Kill'em All and Master of Puppets are just incredible albums especially considering the type of mainstream arena rock that was being played in the eighties.

12. Pre- Black Album, I love them
After that, they fucking blow. Blow hard. Especially as of recently, St. Anger is the most atrocious peice of shit CD I've ever listened to. "Hey I got an idea, lets write shitty lyrics, and hey, no guitar solos either, oh yea, Lars, replace your snare drum with a trash can. Our fans are going to love this."

13. Hahaha!
You do have a point about the drums. They sound incredibly muffled or something. I think every song is tuned down about an octave.

18. I LIKE them...
I mean, I've never been a Metallica Fan (I don't have any tattoos of their album art), which may disqualify my opinion, but the longer they stick around, the more interesting I find them.

Like the Clash, they have a scrupulous disinterest in whether anyone besides them thinks they're keepin' it real, and that's wonderful.

The Clash didn't start sucking. They just got better, while progressing.

In fact, The Clash are in a whoooole different ballpark then Metallica... but thats just me. :)

The lyrics do suck ass though.

I, and many other Metalica fans, love the solos. Kirk Hammett is one of the greatest guitarists working in metal (if Metallica can even be called that anymore *sigh*) and his solos are one of the bands staples.

I'm not a guitar buff, I've played the drums for ovewr a decade and have never been impressed by Lar's stuff, it was always the soul crushing arrangements and solos that Hammett pulled out that I couldn't wait to hear.

Here's the worst lyrical offense:

nvisible kid
Never see what he did
got stuck where he hid
Fallen through the grid
Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown
Invisible kid
Never see what he did
got stuck where he hid
Fallen through the grid
Invisible kid
Got a place of his own
Where he'll never be known
Inward he's grown

Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain
Invisible kid
Suspious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much
Invisible kid
Locked away in his brain
From the shame and the pain
World down the drain
Invisible kid
Suspious of your touch
Don't want no crutch
But it's all too much, yeah

24. lol
One review I read said the lyrics sounded like they were written by Hetfields rehab therapist :D

I have a few exceptions to my no solo rule.Sepultura's Beneath The Remains has some great ones,Melt Banana's guitarist does some things with a guitar that I've never heard before, and the late great Didjits had one mean ass guitarist and frontman in Rick Sims.

Hell,I like Malcolm Young more than Angus.I'm a rhythm guy I guess :)

27. I love Melt Banana's guitarist...
I'm not real smart about guitars, but from watching them via the net live and listening to all thier stuff I can find, he seems really innovative.

Kinda like a Japanese Eddie Van Halen meshed with Tom Morello.

21. I loved Metallica in 1985, I don't love 'em now.
I don't think they necessarily "sold out" so much as they just got older and lost their youthful fire (hell, they're all now in their early forties, for crying out loud), but either way the bottom line's the same.... they suck now.

Hell,my fav band NoMeansNo has two brothers in thier fifties and they still crank.I think it's not age so much as hunger. They're rich, and once a band gets comfy they tend to start sucking. The bastards! :)

31. Metallica...
They jumped the shark with the Black album....

They killed themselves when they became RIAA's bitch during the downloading thing.

And, if you notice, they haven't had one hit song after that.

:)

34. No.
And it's not just because of the internet controversy.

And it's not just because they haven't put out a good album in almost 20 years.

And it's not just because Kirk Hammet thinks he's better than John Petrucci.

It's also because James Hetfield makes me just wanna go into berzerker ball kicking mode.
