But AP got an initial report from an unverified source, put it out on the wire, put a "hold" on the story and reissued it with the credible sources they could find at 4 or 5 in the morning.
That's the extent of "The Hoax" and verifiable with DUers who live in the area.

... when driving on I-505 in the Central Vally in California back in 1997. It was really weird. A clear night, dark as hell, and suddenly a huge flash of light lit everything up, illuminating mountains that were 50 miles in front of us. At first I thought it was lightning, but there weren't any clouds and local lightning wouldn't have lit up the mountains so far away. Also, the duration and color was not right for normal lightning. Later it was found out to be a meteor of some sort.
