1. Yes it was
I used to work with a guy who did a bunch of the special effects on that movie, and the stories he would tell. they KNEW it was crap when making it.

He also said Jennifer Lopez was unbearable.

Edited on Thu Jun-03-04 10:35 PM by nu_duer
for contemporary bad films (of course, this doesn't include the cheezy 50's sci-fi and horror flicks, or the ones from the 70s, 80s either. Ever seen "Bug" or was it "Bugs" - ? Oh, and "Frogs" and "Ssssss" and "The Manitou" and "Parasite").

Then there are the MST3K flicks...

10. Yeah, those are in a class all their own.
They are so bad they're funny.

Of course, I feel that way about Anaconda. You know what, Anaconda would be bearable if it didn't have real names in it. If it was some low budget flick, it might even be a cult favorite. But with its cast, there are no excuses.

Its really really bad.

On Edit: Viggo is even in it, and I hated it. Therefore it must be really awful.

39. but all those movies are merely bad...
Not good, but not really the worst, either: they don't quite fall splat the hardest, because they didn't aim high enough to begin with. For a movie to rank with the most awful, it must be truly excruciating to sit through. I agree with Joe Queenan: if the good is the enemy of the best, then the merely bad is the enemy of the worst:

Though I am appalled by the concept of revisionism, the sad truth is that many of the most famous catastrophes have been vastly overrated, and can no longer be viewed as the malignant pus they once were. Consider Ishtar. One of the biggest box-office disasters in history, this Dustin Hoffman/Warren Beatty vehicle now seems like a run-of-the-mill turkey more remarkable for its cost and for the fame of those involved than an explicitly horrible motion picture. I would even go so far as to say that the first 30 minutes are mildly amusing.

(...)

In the kingdom of the bad movie giants, almost everyone else is a dwarf. Not Michael Cimino, however. Auteur of such self-indulgent twaddle as The Deer Hunter and Year Of The Dragon, Cimino towers over the competition by virtue of having directed the 220-minute Heaven's Gate. The first time I saw the movie in 1980, I felt like I had been buried alive. The second time I saw it, last week, I felt like someone had dug me up, re-embalmed my festering corpse and buried me again. Featuring fey villains, incomprehensible accents, lovable whores, roller-skating fiddle players and Kris Kristofferson, Heaven's Gate remains, certifiably, the worst movie of all time. A pompous budget-buster that actually destroyed a major studio, Heaven's Gate seems at least as bad today as it did 23 years ago. By comparison, Can't Stop The Music, Xanadu and Town & Country seem like Gone With The Wind.

29. Worst movies in recent years:
Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
XXX (Not even Sam Jackson could save this pile of shit)
Tomb Raider
Swordfish (Not even Halle's berries could save this one)
Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman should just stick to movies where he plays an X-Man)
Catwoman (I know it's not out yet, but come on...)

38. YAR!
Actually the lake they filmed that at is about a five minute drive from where I grew up.

Its actually in BC, not Maine

Any Vancouverites on may be interested to know it was filmed at Bunsen Lake - the setting for many exciting "Danger Bay" Epsisodes!

40. They were thinking "we're making a worse movie than
COCKTAIL!

Yes, Cocktail. The heartwarming story of Tom Cruise, the actor who plays one basic part, being cast as a bartender this time.

Cocktail is truly the worst movie ever made. Anaconda is fuckin' Kurosawa compared to Cocktail.
