Poll question: Are you overtaxed?
Edited on Fri Jun-04-04 03:52 AM by leftyandproud
Including all of the hidden taxes...gasoline (.76 per gallon avg state & federal tax)..sales taxes...tarrifs (70% of alcohol product prices)...the 7.5% FICA 'contribution' and the unemployment insurance taxes that your employer takes off the top of your salary before hiring you...

All of this, plus regular FICA/Income/Medicaid/Medicare taxes that come from your check...all summed up. Most americans work between 4-6 months out of the year to pay taxes (seen and unseen) at all levels, state, local, & federal.

Bear in mind...In Europe and other civilized, the levels can be MUCH higher, especially on things like gasoline ($4.50 in taxes alone), etc.

What do you think? On the average, do you pay enough?

Are Americans overtaxed?

1. I put yes, only because I'm very low income...
In an expensive city. Regressive taxes like VAT, Sales taxes suck. Taxes should be on income, property, luxury items, and items like tobaccco & alcohol that have a detrimental effect on society.

2. I'm not voting in my own poll BUT...
my answer would be "no"
I'd be willing to pay double what I pay now to get free national healthcare. Damm shame most americans are too greedy to see the big picture.

3. Not all Americans can afford any more.
I have no health care - can't afford it.

I barely can pay rent and keep food on the table. I'm not the only one.

5. that is the point!
people can't afford it...so it should be provided by the govt...it probably would cost you far less than it would if you bought it directly...you'd be getting a hell of a deal on it.

4. hehe
Quite frankly, yes, I am taxed too much.

But that's only in relation to the rich, who are taxed too little to speed up the second law of thermodynamics.

6. I wonder...
what type of response this would have gotten if I asked "Are you undertaxed?"

think the results would be reversed?

8. Quite frankly I do feel overtaxed.
But just like another poster, in relation to the upper 10 percent in the country. Hell, I listened to all the bullshit hype that B* pushed trying to get his cut passed, and what happened after all was said and done? I got a check for three hundred dollars from the IRS (which I promptly donated to the United Way, they needed it more than I did), my income tax increased over the next 2 years, and my property tax increased. So yeah, when that happens, and I see a company like GE get a multi billion dollar tax cut, I do feel overtaxed.

10. YES, YES, YES! It is an abomination!
25 years of graphs prove that while the rich have paid less in taxes (some pay 0 and still get a 'refund' because of deliberate or even accidental loopholes) while the middle class pays more.

Meanwhile the big corporations start more services, leaving the entrepreneurs out to rot or work for the big corporation for a far reduced salary.

Yeah, what a great way to help the economy. :eyes:

Sorry to fool you, freepbastards, but the that's the truth. If your minds are too narrow to accept it, that's not my fault.
