Is It Just Me... Or Does The Rhythmic Grunting Of Pro Tennis Players...
creep anyone else out too? I'm guessing that non-stop high-speed power-shots and speed are just as important as placing the ball where you want it to go and other techniques and skills... but still, all that grunting and wheezing... it's so... so... I don't know what.

1. Maybe it's like karate
Maybe it helps concentration or something, or taps into the aggressive rubber-ball power of the universe . . .

I agree that it is disturbing.

2. Monica Seles' grunting always creeped me out.
It was so weird. Maybe it's just the effort into those power shots...I guess.

3. It depends...
...if the grunter is female and attractive...then...one can imagine *moderated*.

But, yeah, it gets old in a big hurry.

But tennis is boring as hell to watch. I suggest that you try a different station.

7. I'm in love with Maria Sharapova
but she really needs to lay off the grunting. It's not very attractive. Is the grunting some sort of karate thing or is it just psy-ops?

8. I was always
told that it was like Karate. My teacher encouraged me to do it for two reasons, to control breathing and for rhythm. Being an awful player I never really saw the need. It bothers me but I understand it.

9. I played lots of tennis in my teens, I never grunted -
what's more, I don't recall hearing other players
grunt on a regular basis. Sure is irritating.

10. Old school tennis players weren't grunters...
I remember watching lots of tennis during the 60s -- I found it much more interesting back then, when the game was about much more than how hard you can power the ball across the net. Tennis used to be more elegant. I rarely watch it now due to the change.

And the grunting. :)
