We should be allowed to bring our pets to work |
|
I just think we all would be more productive if we brought our pets to work. I could think of nothing more entertaining than to crunch numbers while Abbott sleeps quietly on my lap (Evita would never come to work with me - she's the snob).
Anyone else think this is a great idea?

I LOVE my pets and mourn every minute that we are apart. If I had two little snoozing puppies here... I would be in seventh heaven.

peopLe do that here in my buiLding, and i don't appreciate it due to aLLergies. god forbid if ms. sniffa were to be subjected to being around animaLs - she has the 'spend a day in the hospitaL' type of aLLergies to most animaLs.

We should also be able to wear bathrobes or go naked if we wish.

5. No it isn't a great idea |
|
There are plenty of people out there who are allergic to cats/dogs/other critters. On top of that there are plenty of people who don't care for animals. They shouldn't be forced to deal with them at work.

9. I have to deal with the following: |
|
Their screaming brats (not often, but often enough) Their personal phone conversations Their annoying cackling laughs Their excessive amount of perfume Their obnoxious phone rings
What's a quiet cat when I deal with that every single day

But I'd never get anything done chasing my snake around.
"Don't get under that, Sheikh. Come back here. That's a heating vent, don't go in there. Oh, now, you've lifted your tail and pooped on the carpet. Get off the printer, you stupid snake. Ack, get out of the paper feed!"

13. I used to work at Autodesk |

and they had a pet friendly office policy. It was great! Dogs and cats make for good office vibes IMO, but I do understand that some are allergic. My advice? Stop complaining and deal with it. :P I'm very allergic to cats and I deal with it just fine. I have a theory that most pet allergies are in people's heads.
During the Internet boom/bust days we had a parrot for a mascot that would do nothing but poop all over the office and eat plastic pens. It was very annoying, but I think it was just that particular parrot.

Deal with it? Why should I become sick to satisfy someone's desire to have a pet in the office? I am not at work to get happy vibes; I'm here to work and get the hell out at 5.

20. Think of the non-pet-owners, please. |
|
Allergies aside, there are lots of people who can't share their workspaces with animals. I, for example, am very afraid of dogs (please don't ask), and there's no way I would get any work done if there was one nearby.
I used to work in a place that had a pet-friendly policy (I didn't know this when I took the job), as well as a "you are expected to leave your office door open" policy. One day, while taking a short break, I looked up from my computer and saw a full-grown Rottweiler standing right outside my office. No leash, no nothing; it was just roaming the building unsupervised. For the rest of the time I was there (a 4-month contract), I never left my door open agan. I couldn't even walk down the hall without peeking around every corner.
Now I realize I'm an extreme case, but please keep in mind that not everybody likes animals. It's only natural to want to spend as much time as possible with your pet, but it's not fair to the people who have to share your space.

|
Sometimes I bring my cats, sometimes the manager brings her daughter's mini dachshund. Samurai, a bichon frisee, guards the Asian antiques store next door. People enjoy it. :D
