The stupidest haircut ever invented (mullets don't come close)
I present to you...the High and Tight! The Army Haircut of Today! The Most God-Awful Thing You Can Do To Yourself!

I can't find a picture of one, but a description will suffice: Cut all of your hair to half an inch long. Then put a bowl on your head and buzz anything without a bowl covering it to about an eighth of an inch.

This is the "packed" haircut of the new millennium. In the Brown Shoe Army, soldiers who wanted to have long hair would put half a jar of Greasy Kid Stuff on it and squish it into a semblance of an army haircut. These days the troops don't want to have a crewcut, but they don't want to look like they have long hair (one inch is considered "long hair" in XVIII Airborne Corps units) so they get the part you see with a hat on crewcut and leave the rest long.

When I got to the 10th Mountain, I told my troops it was the shittiest haircut in the known universe and they weren't to wear it. They were to choose between the haircut in the regulation, which is a good businesslike style, or a crewcut because you look really fucking stupid with a little patch of long hair on top of a crewcut. Most of them went for the crewcut because...oh, we can't have a nice haircut, they won't think we're in the infantry if we have a nice haircut. (To which I responded "but you're not in the infantry!")

2. I Love That Haircut.
But not so much the bowl cut you described... it looks MUCH better if it at tapers or fades into a skin-tight buzz (or razor shave.)

7. You gays and the military thing!
Just kidding, kind of... being gay myself. Personally, I prefer longer hair or perhaps uniformly buzzed, but I don't care for the military-looking cuts on anyone really.

14. I'm still looking for a photo of a 75th Ranger Regiment H&T
It's not even the bowl cut. It's more like "stick your hand on top of your buddy's head and buzz him all the way around your hand."

The Marine H&T looks almost rational. Almost. It's still an ugly-ass haircut.

4. I've had both a mullet (80's teenager in Nashville) and a high and tight
Actually, a lot of girls liked both haircuts at their perspective time.

When I cut off my mullet in 89 (I had it for about a year), a lot of of the girls I worked with at Opryland (when it was an amusement park) were upset.

Also, my wife, whom I met when I was in the Marine Corps, wants me to go back to a high and tight. I won't do it though.

And I'm definitely not going back to a mullet.

5. Being that they allow long hair on females in the military now
Do they allow long hair on males now too?

By long I mean 3 or so feet.

If not, why the double standard?

6. Well, if the guys want to agitate for it...
then they should have to put it up in one of the same regulation styles approved for military women with long hair. :)

8. Wore one for 4 years. However, I will allow that the horseshoe
variants look dumb, as do the flat tops unless you're Duke Freakin' Nukem.

Just for that, I'm not gonna share a picture of me in my blues wearing a high and tight :P

19. What one I think is silly is...
...you know how you see kids running around and it looks kind of like spiked hair but they try to put it so it all comes to a line going lengthwise along your head almost like a mohawk? I think that looks silly. And it seems to be the latest thing.

22. My severe prejudice...I'll admit to it
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 09:07 AM by markses
When I see high and tight coming my way, I generally assume that I'm in the presence of an asshole or an imbecile, and probably both. The only thing worse is the cop variation in which the top part of the high and tight is grown out just enough to be transformed into a flat top. I once saw a group from a sheriff's convention walk into a bar...THAT'S THE JOKE, which you'd get if you'd seen this pack of losers, with their high and tight flat tops. Oooooooooo! Ooooooooooooooo! Don't get me started....

24. Same here...
I know it's wrong, but I can't see a guy with the H&T happening without instantly labeling him a jar-head ass-hat.

If you are wearing a high and tight, regardless of the reason, the burden of proof is upon you to convince me that you possess more than a dozen functioning neurons.

25. Living in South Korea...
The high and tight (so that's what it's called) is the surest way to identify yourself as GI. That's the reason I have long hair now.

The Inverse Mohawk. It's what you get when you combine an 8 year old with some dog trimmers.
