They're making purchases which are not warranted. I disagree with them.

At this point, I know I don't have job security. Hell, I could die tomorrow in a car crash. Why am I always so scared and timid of people?

1. Are you sure they are not warranted?

Speaking as a management person, there are times when purchases can appear to be unwarranted. Is it the end of the fiscal year for your company? I work for a non-profit, and many times we buy things that seem odd, especially now (the end of our fiscal year)but, due to our funding, we have limited choices.

Edited to add: if we don't spend the money, we have to give it back. This is not a place we want to be in, as it could ultimately cost jobs.

2. The whole world is just screwed up...
My org is like that too. If we don't spend it, we have to give it back then they make big cuts.

There is no point for the new product, knowing what it does...

You're right. I think they're out to save themselves (and me indirectly) by doing this. I shouldn't be so blasted ethical. I should be trying to save my job instead.

6. That business model

has ALWAYS pissed me off. The "spend it or lose it" that many
gov agencies, non-profits, and even many corporations use is totally
bogus and causes enormous amounts of waste... buying stuff you don't
really need and then starving for stuff later when a "budget
re-adjustment" occurs.

Especially for a non-profit, it seems that you could put any
unspent funds into a rainy day account, rather than return
it to the funding parties.

10. How odd...
...my husband works for a non-profit, and they do the same thing. And for the same reason too.

4. LOL!
Thanks. I rather needed a chuckle.

Now I'm going to go out and go booze it up at a bar. I hate bars. It's always people in cliques. And my persona scares people away and I don't even speak! Still, a little re-affirmation about me won't harm anybody... Or maybe not, I'd end up doing the wrong thing and regretting it.

5. Whoa...you're making my brain hurt
You're just going to the wrong bars!

Actually best thing is to go to one where you like the staff...chat with them.

7. I always tell my bosses when they do something stupid
It's kind of turned into an unofficial part of my job - they have come to expect my brutal honestry and they rely upon me to keep them grounded in reality. Like the other day I scolded my boss for misusing the word "simplistic" repeatedly in a presentation to an important client. Because he trusts me he actually appreciated it. It's great for my job security, but the drawback is that no one at the office really likes me very much.

Of course I would only recommend this if you're always right. :donut:

9. Bring up your concerns in a professional manner
And then if they fire, they're just being assholes, and it's not your fault.

11. I wish that my company would make warranted purchases
The owners are such cheapa**es. They won't spend $100 now to save tens of thousands later. They have to have a customer send back product or stop buying from us to make an expensive (one cent per pound) quality change. We can't spend a thousand dollars for a change that would save us all from coughing from all the powder in the air and save about a half of hour of down time per week. Yes, the market is tight, but our company does high eight digits of business per year. A lot of these changes would save money or prevent loss of business. They are so short sighted sometimes.
There is a suggestion box at work although all the managers are highly accessible. The owners are too technically accessible although it can be a bad idea to complain directly to them if not done correctly. No one complains about unwarranted expenditures except in the context of what we got instead of the things that we need such as, "We can't afford to buy a new crash container to replace the beat up one with sharp edges but we bought three new trees for out front." or "We have to buy old used computers but we're getting new office furniture?"
