Smarty Jones will lose today...(((((I guarantee it!!!))))))))))
The Triple Crown is reserved for only the greatest of horses. Smarty Jones albeit a good horse is not a great Horse. The horse didn't get close to the track records of the Derby, and Preakness.

Sorry folks... I know we are looking for a feel good story but it ain't gonna happen.. I guarantee it!

5. LOL..I just read that very same line in the Racing Form
I've been around to long to know that indeed, that's why it's called gambling. On paper, Smarty should kill these guys... But with the Gods of past Triple Crown winners looking down I think they'll say you can't come up Smarty.

Rock Hard Ten by 2 lenths...MHOP

4. Smarty Jones will Win!!!
Why?

Because he is being jockeyed by a Canadian...

Just like why Calgary Flames will win the Stanley Cup tonight
...you just can't compete

13. You know, you got a point there
and I think you're right. Smarty Jones is going to win today and the Flames are going to win tonight. But maybe I feel this way because I'm Canadian.

And snuck into the middle of this thread. Pseudo clever.

Of course, if I had been that bold and on-target I'd want it plastered on page one for a week.

7. I live in Baltimore... and he did break the Preakness record.
Edited on Sat Jun-05-04 09:42 AM by displacedtexan
It was ALL SMARTY JONES ALL THE TIME here for the entire 2 weeks before race day! Everyone was trying to figure out how to place their bets so that they could win, knowing that SJ would come in first. The odds were so great that people had to bet on place and show to make any $.

On edit: I think SJ won the record based on lead, not time. I'll have to check.

10. No... He beat the other dead beat horses by 12 lenths
which was a record at the Preakness.... The record I am referring to and the record that judges how great this horse is, is the timed record..

<snip>
Smarty Jones's winning time of 1:55 and 2/5 over the mile and 3/16 course was off the Preakness record of 1:53 2/5 set by Tank's Prospect in 1985 and equaled by Louis Quatorze in 1996.

9. SJ broke the Preakness record for lengths.
From The Sun:

BELMONT, N.Y. - When Smarty Jones won the Preakness by a record 11 1/2 lengths, he finished with his ears pricked, a sign he was having fun. In the ensuing three weeks leading to the Belmont Stakes today at Belmont Park, he became a national sensation.

11. Two things.
On Derby day the track was a sea of slop and I don't think
anyone would have set a track record on it.

On Preakness day the track was deeper than usual and had been
slow since the day before. Good horses were running in slow times
over it on both days. The only track record broken on Preakness
weekend was on the turf course.

Usually they make scrape the track and make it hard and fast for
the Preakness but they seem to have gone to the other extreme
this year.

17. Party Pooper.
Smarty Jones is a hometown hero around here, so you'd best watch what you say about him. Whether he wins or loses, he's still going to be a hero. He doesn't have to be the greatest of horses... he just needs to run his best race... which he will.

I wish him the best.

You GO... Smarty Jones!!!

21. Will you agree to eat dirt if he wins? I think it would be fitting.
I love Smarty Jones. I think he's going to do it. The other
horses don't look that great and the track is going to be
sloppy. Smarty runs great on a sloppy track. The horse that was trained by Funnycide's? trainer is going to scratch if the
track is bad. Guess since the track is going to be muddy you
could eat mud...

I've got $5 to win on all of them except Smarty.I hope a longshot wins.I'll be $150+ ahead.I'm just guessing that Smarty will be exposed on the longer race.He will fade in the stretch.

They were slow tracks. Belmont is running super fast today in the early races.

Look for Smarty Jones to not only win the Belmont but to set a new track record for a mile and a half race.
