Does anyone care at all that the Men's Final of the French Open is on now? |
|
Hate to sound like an Ugly American, but I can't give a rat's ass.
If Henman had made it to the final, I would have cheered for him, since he's been around for quite some time and hasn't won a big one. But, for the most part, the French Open is won by someone who doesn't win on any other surface (yes, I know there are exceptions, like Agassi) and then slides in the rankings for the rest of the year.
As for the women, I think this year has definitely signaled the end of American women's domination in the game for a while. Capriati, Venus and Davenport will not win a big one again--their chances were in the past few years. As for Serena, she was arrogant enough to think she could take 8 months off and still dominate. Hardly. Now that she's losing, her biggest weapon--confidence--is gone.
Don't look for an American victory any time soon--men or women--in the majors.

Let me dash away from DU and run to see men grunt and strain and...oh, wait...that might be better than porn.
Just kidding!
Nope, don't care.

3. Playing on clay is VERY DIRTY.... |
|
...thought that might get your interest.
The clay flies all over the place and you're a mess afterwards.

Hey, remember that transexual tennis player--Renee Richards--who became a woman and who wanted to play on the women's tour? This could prove your theory wrong!

6. Yes, as in you mean you care? |
|
If so, who are you rooting for? Have to say that Coria deserves it since he's been playing so well as of late.

It's better TV than the 90 channels of "The Reagan Years"

14. I do. It turned out to be an interesting match with Coria struggling |

with a major cramp in the fourth set. He ended up giving away that set as he played through some excruciating pain. At points, he was lobbing serves in at 50mph, reminding me of Michael Chang against Lendl.
Coria played on and actually had the match on his racket with two championship points in the 5th set, but he was obviously not at his physical best. Gaudio ended up with the win, 8-6 in the 5th. It's always interesting when the 44th-ranked player in the world beats the odds and wins a major.
Both players were very gracious in their remarks after the match.
It was well worth watching.
The next sporting event that I have even a shred of interest in is the Tour de France which begins July 3.
Sorry you all missed the French Open. Maybe next year!?
