Happy birthday to GARY "U.S." BONDS and LEVI (Four Tops) STUBBS!
Edited on Sun Jun-06-04 02:16 PM by NightTrain
That's right, y'all. We got us an R&B twofer this fine June 6th!

First, Gary "U.S." Bonds was born in Jacksonville, FL on June 6, 1939. From 1960-62, he enjoyed a series of hits on Frank Guida's Legrand label, which included "New Orleans," "Quarter To Three," "School Is Out," "Dear Lady Twist," and "Seven-Day Weekend." Bonds also enjoyed a comeback in 1981-82, when his old pal Bruce Springsteen produced a pair of albums that produced the hit singles "This Little Girl Is Mine" and "Out of Work."

Happy 65th, Brother Gary! :party::toast::yourock::bounce:

And Levi Stubbs, the legendary lead singer of Motown's Four Tops, came into the world in Detroit on June 6, 1936. If you know anything about the '60s, you could probably name any half-dozen Four Tops hits from memory, so I won't bother to mention those songs now. I'll simply wish Brother Levi a happy 68th birthday! :party::toast::yourock::bounce:

2. If you wanna be
happy for the rest of your life
Never make a pretty woman your wife
Oh from my personal point of view
Get an ugly girl to marry you...

3. Sorry, wrong artist.
"If You Wanna Be Happy" was by Gary's labelmate, Jimmy Soul. Frank Guida had offered the song to Bonds, but he turned it down, insisting that it "had no soul."

5. Levi!
My all-time Motown fave. I've worn out many a Four Tops album.
