Could I get some advice on my website's appearance?
http://www.sidrat.net/whoami.html

It's the new design. The big issue right now is inter-browser compatibility. Mozilla, Opera, most Mac browsers, and Konquerer aren't recognized (though Mac IE should work), though by using those browser's Identification configuration programs, they can be set to use Netscape 6 or IE4+. (NS4 does work though the text isn't as smooth...) My goal is to write in code that recognizes the code to tell the browser to run the IE4 code...

Thanks!

13. Hey!
It's time to get on the Firefox bandwagon! And use Thunderbird for the email.

1.6 is so yesterday!

:)

2. Seems to load properly by Safari on Mac OSX
None of your in-site links work (main, art & photo, etc.). If they're not supposed to yet, then it's working fine.

3. Not programmed in yet...
I still need to create the updated main page plus the parent subject pages (photography, main, other, etc) before I upload the fully finished version...

The wimpy 'return to main' button will bring visitors back to the main page (:puke:) which can go to the other pages from there. They clearly need to be worked on though. :-) :-(

4. Have you lost weight?
You look good, and so does the site.

5. Thanks!
I lost 10 pounds due to that mystery illness last summer. I've kept that off but I do rather need to get back on the exercise bike... :-)

6. works ok in mozilla firefox 0.8 on winxp
you should never write browser specific code. stick to w3 standards.

oh, and ditch the "under construction" banner. those are so 1996. People have been conditioned to think "will never be finished" when they see those

otherwise, I thought the design was okay. that's very subjective, but the color scheme wasn't gharish or anything, and I could read the text

7. Actually, I was trying to be backwards compatible for Netscrape 4.x
Will take down the construction pic... :-)

In terms of years, 1996 was still a better one. :-)

8. '96 - back when I could design web pages
using pure html code and photoshop. Since then I haven't kept up with CSS and xhtml and all that jazz. I still do my pages in raw html, and they all look ugly by today's standards :)

The only non-HTML thing is a little Javascript thingy to discourage people from stealing my pictures with a right click (there are ways around that, I know).

Oh, and Hypno, yours looks pretty good. And I'm not sure I've seen your pic before--you're a cutie.

9. Fine on Firefox on 98 SE
But what with the white text on a white-to-light-grey gradient back on the main page? Or is that one of the things that only works with IE?

10. Oh, the main page!
That one is getting done shortly. I had altered the main CSS document that covers all pages... that's an oopsie on my part, for once IE not to blame. :-)

11. I have to tell you
I think it's a great site. You are obviously an intelligent one, and have done a super job at setting it up.
