'Active' Land Mine Found In Richmond, VA Home
you ok Underpants?

<snip>

RICHMOND, Va. -- He's lived in the home for eight years and doesn't have a clue how a land mine wound up in the attic.

John Jamieson, of Richmond, Va., says the mine -- a rusty brown container about the size and shape of a glass milk bottle -- popped out when he jostled the floor boards in his 1920s house.

The container rolled toward the opening in the attic staircase, but Jamieson grabbed it before it fell to the second floor, set it outside, and called police, who said the land mine is 20 years old, but still fully operational.

Neighboring homes were evacuated.

5. Collecting ordenance can be fun.
After an Naval Reserve training cruise, I thumbed a ride back to my apartment from the ship and was picked up by a car driven by some of the reservists.

After some snickering, they showed me a 5"/38 AAC ( anti aircraft ) shell stowed away in the trunk of the car - taken from the upper handling room of mount 52.

A five inch / 38 round is nothing I would want to play with ever. After so many years the corrosive primer can become so sensitive that a good bump or jolt could set it off.

I reported it but we never could find or identify who these people were.

Someday I keep expecting to hear how three houses in a Houston suburb are partially or totally destryoed in a detonation - when the 30 year or older round explodes.

I can only hope it was properly disposed of.... but I am sure it made a great conversation piece. Hey check this out...... watch this !!!!
