Am I The Only DUer Who Absolutely DETESTS Summer?

I swear, if it were possible to go right from winter to spring to fall I'd be eternally happy.

I can't deal with hot weather. I hate sweating. My girlfriend abuses me mercilessly because of this.

I love air conditioning. I love cold weather. I love how I look in winter clothing.

Summer in the Northeast is hot, muggy and awful. I'd imagine if I lived in the South I'd have have been shot for excessive whining by now. I like the beach (hell, I live on a freakin' island) but that's still not enough to make up for the hell that is June - September.

Please tell me I'm not the only DUer who groans through these summer months.

1. When I lived in NYC

I would shower twice in a day (murder on the hair ;-) ) It may be foggy 90% of the time, but I love my little Pacifica where it never goes above, like, 90.

2. I hate the heat...

I always feel bitchy when the temperature gets above 75. Winter's awesome - if you're cold, you can always add layers. But in the summer, you can only take off so much to feel cooler. To me, that's just a waste of being hot and naked. :p

I've been in 115F in the desert at maybe 10% humidity and the high 90's around here at over 90%. Both really suck, and I can't imagine it being that hot and that sticky.

where Satan goes for SUMMER VACATION to get a little sun and heat.

I hate Summer. I hate hot. I figure there are many ways to get warm but there is a legal limit on how many clothes you can remove to get cool.

Summer in Noth Texas lasts from about May to November. In South Texas it lasts from Late March to Early December.

5. It is the main reason I live in PNW

I start to complain when it hits 72. Fortunately we have only a few days above 85 so it's somewhat bareable. I told my SO we are getting an air-conditioner this year or there will be hell to pay. I live in the woods so even if it is hot at least I don't have to feel the hot beating sun. I've been known to check into Motel 6 on those rare nights when it stays too warm to sleep.

This sweating shit sucks. Summer is a drag up here in the Northeast. I'm sure it can be a lot worse down south, but because fall, spring and winter are all better up here, it makes summer shitty.

I'd prefer it if the temp never got above about 72. As soon as it gets hot and sunny, I head for the patio umbrella, or the indoors. I can't believe I lived in Houston at one time.

Can never get a damn thing done, and no matter how much AC I turn on, it's never enough.

19. Where I live it isn't all _too_ bad.

I now live in Hampton Roads VA. I now can see many people from this area cursing me out. I say just hear me out.

The average high only gets to be 86 and that is between July 17 and July 27. This does have the potential to have really oppressive temperatures and humidity. Normally these conditions, IMHO (which I will explain below) will only last a few days to a week. This area will only experience truely oppressive weather in the summer 2- 3 times for maybe 2 - 4 days at a time, though it can go on a bit longer. I am talking about weather that is ATLEAST MID 90's with high humidity! I normally roll my eyes at people who complain when it is mid to upper eighties which is perfectly normal for his area.

Now I use to live in Tallahassee FL, where I felt the summer weather was just plain oppressive. There wasn't all that much relief from mid June - maybe late July. I can remember being thankful for temperatures being in the high 80's and low 90's.

The highest average temp there is 92 which last from June 23 - August 16 Tally has average temps of 90 and above from May 3 - Sept 10. Now Tally has average temps that are at or higher than where I live currently from May 11 - Sept 30. This is basically where I am coming from in my comparison. The summers in Tallahassee just seemed to go on forever. I was praying for mid 80s weather. (All numbers from the Weather channels website for area codes 23602 and 32306)

Yes it does get hot in this area, but never for really long periods of time. Yes we do have uncomfortable days. I have told people that complain on the really hot days here well just think about having this every day from mid june through mid to late August. Now I was thankful that it would be just average... many days there were in the upper 90's, just like here many days are a couple to several days above normal, upper 80's to lower 90's. I also understand humidity plays a huge roll in this. Just recalling Tally seemed to have just about the same amount of humidity level as this area.

I also believe Hot weather is also very relative to where you are living and have lived most of your life. I think Hot for some people might not be as hot to others and the same for Cold Weather.

Though personally, I think the adage 'it's not the heat, it's the humidity' has some validity to it.

My parents just got back from Las Vegas and they said that when it was 103 out there it felt better than 83 does on Long Island.

So I guess it also matters the type of heat, in addition to where you're from and what you're used to experiencing.

I will say though once the temps in Tally did moderate a bit by Mid Oct. The weather was just plain delightful until next spring. (Except for maybe a week or two cold snap sometime in late Jan - Mid Feb) Though it seemed like all of a sudden temps were back in the 90's again.

Although, to be fair, last summer was surprisingly meek. The year before that, I was ready to kill a kitten and then myself, so I'd go to Hell and be cooler.

Ok, I hate the heat and humidity too (I live in DC for crips sake) but I LOVE the extra long daylight. The winter darkness affects my depression (thank God for meds!) so I love the late sunset and early sunrise of Summer. I also love the green of the trees, the flowers in gardens, the noise of the bugs and brids singing, heck, I even like mowing our admitedly small lawn! My fav is still Fall but Summer has it all over Winter. As for the weather, that's why God invented AC!

I'm right there with you Magic Rat! I loathe summer, unless I'm at the beach. I do love laying out on the beach and swimming in the ocean...but give me a week or so of that, and that's it for me. Then summer just needs to be over.

I don't know about you, but I think I might actually have the opposite of Seasonal Affective Disorder...I get depressed in the summertime, but engergized and happy at wintertime.

I always say I should have been born in Vermont or some other snowy, wintery place without the sweltering hot summers. Believe me, when I retire, I'm heading north. To hell with "sunny Florida"! Most people think I'm crazy when I say that, but I'm serious...bring on the crisp cool air and lots of snow! :)

At least, that's my theory. I feel so much better in cool weather, and in dim light or darkness. I come alive in the fall. Can't do the beach, either.

Do you monitor the temperature and length of the day in the summer? I'm always watching for signs that we're "over the hump" and headed for cool times.

41. Being a fat girl....

I love the cooler weather, because I can't move outside in the summer without sweating. If I can go out in track pants and a tshirt without sweating, I'm a happy camper. I also love my big baggy sweatshirts in the winter. I rarely have to wear a jacket, because once you get inside, some skinny bitch has the heat on way too high.

until I moved here to No. Georgia in 1989. It was then I realized that there were actually seasons and not year-round summer. I hate summer with a passion. I hate the humidity (though it's not as bad in GA as it is in So. FL) and I HATE to sweat. Give me 40-degree temperatures with sunny skies and I am in heaven.

Give me 90 and humidity over dry ungodly 115 any day, any lifetime. It got to 105 or so here last week and I wanted this desert city to die along with Saint Ronnie.

I'm long gone before the 110+ of July and August, traveling ANYWHERE until mid-September even if I forfeit paychecks as a result. The Adirondacks are my current summer escape, but I bolt to Canada if the Saratoga region is stuck in the mid-80s for a week or more.

Despite my Miami roots, give me temps in the 50s or lower all year long. I can walk around without a jacket or sweater even in the 30s and love it. My love for year round golf is the only thing that keeps me out a Santa Claus climate.

If I never see 50F again I will be blessed. Grew up in Baltimore without AC and moved to SC 22 years ago, next move I wake up with palm trees! The dependence of current Southerners on AC is pathetic. Don't turn on the AC until temp reaches high 80's consistantly(it's not on yet). That which doesn't kill me makes me stronger...........

Summer is my least favorite season. I don't like heat. I don't do well in hot weather. All of the things I love to do...garden, hike, play with my horses...just aren't good in the heat. And guess what? I'm a teacher. I'm working 50 - 60 - 70 hours a week all year, and then get the summer off. When it's so hot I don't get anything done. I sit under my evaporative cooler and resent the heat.

It doesn't help that I live in the Mojave Desert. After 24 years here, I'm trying to find a job in a cooler climate. That's a tough proposition. Do you sell your house before you have a job, or wait until you are hired 2 days before the start of school 900 miles away and then put it on the market? Either. I just want out of the heat.

45. Winter in the Northeast is cold, dark, and brutal.

Not only that, it DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGS on into April and sometimes May. Then it RAINS constantly for a month or two. By the time summer comes, we no longer care how hot and sticky it is, only that it isn't cold, the green grass looks nice, and backyard tomatoes are forthcoming.
