I have a large group of freinds who are so afraid of confrontation that they put up with conservative commentaries at various happy hours and other get-togethers - without a smidge of challenge. These folk would do anything rather than defend their own liberal viewpoints. As a result, if I am quiet, the convo is completely dominated by uber-conservative opinions. How to bolster confidence and encourage these wimps to stand up for themselves? I should add that many of these people are artists and musicians, and feel they don't want to alienate anyone. All-inclusiveness is perverted by conservatives to mean "shut your mouth or I'll yell louder". I stand my ground, but am often undermined by comments from fellow liberals apparently designed to keep the peace.

1. If they are guys,
then remind them that women like strong men that don't back down when they are right. In otehr words, women don't like wusses...use the sex angle! At the same time, I almost want to suggest different parties though because if there is a lot of political talk, it sounds like a snoozer! Afterall, parties are for.....partying! Never yell though...let idiots yell. Run them around in circles and snicker/laugh at them when they get angry - this will enrage them more.

3. When it comes to the ultraconservative diatribe
I just laugh. They can't think so reason is lost on them. But boy do they hate being laughed at. Forget political arguments. Make your opponent feel stupid. When everyone laughs at what you say, they will slink away.
