He's on Letterman singing yet another song about his favorite subject.

3. The sad thing is
That he is talented, he could be doing so much more, but he's got to sing about what a badass he is and all that bullshit. What a waste.

7. When it's done right...
Linkin Park sucks, obviously, but I never was even willing to give rap a chance. Until I heard Anthrax/Public Enemy doing "Bring the Noise."

21. Lately
He seems to be swinging country. "Cold and Empty" and "Picture" are two of the country hits he recently came out I believe. He seems he left that part of his career and really finding his talents and trying to elevate them.

5. I just can't stand his fake southern act
he grew up in Detroit and began his career as a hard rapper if my memory serves me correct. I think he just picked up the southern act just to sell more records (Appealing to the lowest common denominator, so-to-speak).

Like Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers.

13. but he puts up this
southern bravado that makes him look like he was born in raised in Alabama (No offense to the Bear... Roll Tide! :)). I don't buy it. He is talented but I don't like the way he uses it. It is 100% tastes but that is how I feel.

22. Yeah...
One of his songs lists all the bands he likes.

He envisions himself as the modern incarnation of the "Outlaws," i.e. Willie, Waylon Jennings, etc.

6. I have the same problem with most rap music
Especially the Beastie Boys (although "Ill COmmunication" fucking rocked). Very few rap acts can ever get beyond the "bragging" stage of rap. Kid Rock is rap with more electric guitars than most rap acts (although he just wishes he could be Anthrax for one fucking second).

Eminem, for example, still has a 75%/25% quotient of "bragging" material, and he's one of the better ones, as far as I'm concerned. Wu Tang clan's debut blew my frigging mind, but everything they've done since has, well, sucked.

8. I'm not a big fan of rap, but...
If I had pick rappers to listen to, I guess they would be NWA, Public Enemy, Eminem, and that guy in your sig. (I wonder what Will Smith and Kinky Friedman are discussing, and why do they appear to be ignoring the Big Dog?) And real old school stuff like Grandmaster Flash.

10. If you put Will Smith and the Kinkster in the same room...
...then something as inconsequintial as a mere president isn't going to get in the way of their conversation.

You like NWA, PE, Eminem, and even Grandmaster Flash. Why? Because they were saying something, and not just talking about how they could kick your ass or how big their schlong was.

Ever hear the Pharcyde's first album? Kicked ass.

12. yeah, that's it
NWA and Public Enemy were saying something. Not that I always agreed with them, but they gave you something to think about anyway. And Eminem is just really creative. And Grandmaster Flash was just fun.

I'm not familiar with Pharcyde. What's that mean? Murder of the Pharaoh?

17. One of my all-time favorite bands
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 12:24 AM by Argumentus
...and I'm more into the Beatles and the Grateful Dead than anything else, so my recommendation for a hip-hop groups album should mean a lot (then again, I'm just an asshole on the intenet, so what do I know?). They really hit it big with their first album, and, sadly, everything else was just okay -- they damn near dropped out of sight (although they're still touring).
