River fans banned for Copa semifinal at Boca

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/soccer/06/09/bc.la.spt.soc.argentina.s.ap/index.html

"It's one of the most intense soccer rivalries in the world, a 90-minute show pitting Argentina's two biggest clubs in a spectacle that spills beyond the pitch and into the stands.

But when Boca Juniors hosts River Plate on Thursday in their Copa Libertadores first-leg semifinal, one thing will be missing: The insults, taunts and chants of visiting fans.

In a strange twist to Argentina's "superclasico," Argentine authorities looking to crack down on violence in the stands have banned the rival fans from attending either match.

That has left fans wondering if the showdown will be the same without the opposing armies of fans who usually pack the stands hours ahead of kickoff to trade insults and egg each other on."

Boca-River without visiting fans

I love the 200 fans outside the Football Association HQ. That had to be quite a party in and of itself!

2. All I know is...
you have not been to a sporting event until you've been a Boca or River match, preferably a Boca-River match.

That's all I'm saying.

Boca Juniors uncorks own brand of Cabernet Sauvignon

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/soccer/06/08/boca.wine.ap/

"If Boca Juniors beats archrival River Plate in the Copa Libertadores this week, fans of Argentina's most popular soccer club will have a new way to celebrate: by uncorking a bottle of Boca's new wine.

It's all part of a spirited move by marketers to position the famous South American club in lucrative merchandising and product ventures, much like the rich European clubs across the ocean.

At a wine tasting event this week, Boca's marketers rolled out a 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon dubbed "Boca Premium" with plans to put 20,000 bottles on the shelves in coming weeks with an eye for markets as far away as Asia.

In recent months, Boca has rolled out a series of new products, hoping to capitalize on its recent success on the field. The club is the reigning Intercontinental Cup champion, one of soccer's top club titles."
