Just moved ~ 7 cubic yards of dirt. Ask me anything |
|
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 08:25 PM by darkstar
as long as it isn't a request to lift something.
Got 8 c yards yesterday for some eroded spots and washouts in my yard. Moved ~ 3 yesterday afternoon, 4 today. ~ 1 stll on my driveway.
Gotta say, I'm kinda impressed by my effort. Hadn't done any *serious* labor of that sort in several years. I'm 47. South Louisiana. 93 degrees when I started (7:50 here and still 87.) Of course, I may not be able to move later on.
Barkeep!

1. Where were you when I had 8yrds dyed redwood chips |
|
and 6yrds of pea gravel to move? The redwood chips was easy, nice and light. but shoveling and pushign that peagravel in an old wheelbarrow with a lead wheel uphill nearly killed me. My husband was from La, he was a worker too.

That sounds intense. Up a grade? What the? Man o man. I'm impressed. After these last two days, I'm impressed, I really am. How long did it take you?
Next time you've got some redwood chips, call me. As for the pea gravel, maybe I'll just take notes, learn from a master....

11. the wood chips took only a couple of hours |
|
the pea gravel was used when we dug out the foundation, waterproofed and laid new drain tile on one side of the house. The wheelbarrow was my grandfathers. The peagravel part took about 4 hours I would guess.

2. I dug an 80 ft ditch 3 feet deep |
|
all by my lonesome last summer to replace a sewer line, my recommendation: some tequila, a lovely lady and some good music.

Cooling a bit, but waiting for the tank to reheat so I can fill it higher. Just finished some Cali rolls. Mixing me a dirty and ugly(just poured over ice) martini in a sec.

7. funny you should say that... |

I'm enjoying a vodka martini at the moment. Those dirty martinis are martinis for people who don't really know how to make a martini. Here you go:
-- 1 shot of very good or "Dark Eyes" Vodka (an EXCELLENT generic brand) -- 1/3 to 1/4 shot dry vermouth -- an olive, and I usually add a little bit of the olive juice, I mean like a drop of it. -- and ice cube, no need to strain, this martini is excellent with a layer of ice, crushed ice is best
Enjoy!

all the neighborhood people kept walking by and in a very obligatory manner complementing me on the amount of dirt I had moved. I also had to completely rebuild the sewage drainage system under the house, first time I'd ever done anything like that, I'm a mathematician not a handyman.
And the tequila is for AFTERWARDS, drinking tequila while you work as hard as I'm sure you have will lead to dehydration. I recommend Dos Equis tequila, and the old lick it, slam it suck it: That's pour a little salt on your hand, lick it, slam a shot of tequila, and suck a lemon slice or wedge immediately. It's good, try it.

I spent the day texturing my bathroom. It's the last room that I have to fix up. My arms are sore from the hand pump and clean up is a bitch. Anyway I soaked in the spa and in a bit I'm going to have a margarita with you guys. The lady I'm with is my dog.

Just returned from my soak. Sloppy martini doing fine.
As for blister, funny you should ask. Gloves got soaked and started in on me right towards the end. Given the work, funny a dime sized blister can let you know it's time to pack it in.
What kind of tequilia goin in yr special drink?

Tomorrow, I'm going to see The Cron's of Riddick with my brother and hopefully prime the bathroom.
It smells just like the new house that get there first sheetrock and mud.
It's turning out real purity.
