Poll question: Where should I move to?? |
|
I have a job opening in six regions across the nation which I need to choose where to move. Texas and Indiana do not seem too appealing, any suggestion of my options will be greatly appreciated.

Went to college right up the road and lived there for awhile.
But you might enjoy any of those places. Lots of Democrats in TX, too.

definitely a better choice than Dallas or Indianapolis as far as conservatives go. Charlotte is is old money conservative, not neocon.
Plus there's a pretty big arts community there.

5. Yes, music and art and theater |

...plus a Democratic tradition, in spite of the fact that Jesse Helms comes from just down the road in Marshville.

6. I've lived in both Charlotte and Columbus |
|
And I'd pick Charlotte any day. Very mild winter, and the people may be conservative, but they keep up the "southern hospitality" mentality, and don't scream at you or try to convert you. Charlotte doesn't have a big avant garde area like the short north and High st. in Columbus, but it's out there if you go looking for it.

7. Charlotte has quite a few bright spots |
|
It has the interesting position of being a somewhat non-Bible belt city in the Bible belt. After a little time in town you should find quite a few places to frequent (if you spend a little energy, yoiu will benefit greatly). The atmosphere is one that is a bit low-key, not politically charged, and usually reasonable. Of course there is always the occasional political storm, but all in all, Charlotte is a nice place to live and work.
A great place to be

9. If you want Liberal in NC... |
|
do Chapel Hill, if not that, somewhere in the Raleigh-Durham area (excluding Cary). NC DUers know why... (also, NEVER go to Fayetville!).

11. I grew up in Clintonville |
|
I've been living in Florida for 15 years now and miss the seasons and friendliness of the people in Ohio (yeah, I know, they don't seem that friendly now, but people are really worse in most of the rest of the country).
Another possibilty is Asheville, NC. Very friendly, liberal town. It's beautiful, too-and has far more galleries than the Short North!
