I'm going for an oil change tomorrow. I may go for the brake job too if they can do it. Don't know what a fair price might be though. Oil change is only $15. Should be cheap, I think.

1. call around for a price
Edited on Fri Jun-11-04 10:58 PM by rchsod
shouldn`t run over 200 to 300 depending on the flat rate and cost of pads and/or shoes in your area..also if your rotors are bad they will need replacing...

3. At least a couple hundred bucks.
And if you happen to need rotors, add on a couple hundred more.

4. it's been my experience
that brake jobs are where you get scammed the most. it should be a couple hundred i suppose unless they start talking you into new wheel cylinders.

6. Shouldn't ever need wheel cylinders unless they're leaking

(and really, leaking cylinders can have new seals unless pitted), or they're physically damaged.

Rotors shouldn't have to be replaced either unless warped, worn too thin, or gouged because the pads wore out and scraped metal to metal. Shops may want to turn the rotors to 'break the glaze' and smooth out the grooves that form sometimes but this takes away rotor thickness. I always change my own pads and skip this step.

5. Brake Check has a 4 wheel special
for 99.88. My neighbor just did my brakes last weekend. It was 39.00 for the pads and shoes at Auto Zone. He charged me a case of beer.

8. This post won't help you at all
but the best brake job I ever had done to my car was done for a quarter ounce of weed, including parts.

The markup on those parts is incredible.

I thought I'd come back to find this on page 42.

Thanks for the info.

Hmm, now that I'm unemployed it might be a good time to diy it.
