5. Anything with Gene Kruppa... |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 03:46 PM by Hell Hath No Fury
on the drums!
He kicked ass! If you heard his stuff and your feet weren't moving, you were dead.
Especially check out his work with Benny Goodman.
On edit:
A great movie to check out "A Song is Born" which stars Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo -- it's a remake of "Ball of Fire". It's a musical in which swing plays a huge role -- Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman co-star. Great soundtrack.

9. Once your " In The Mood " The "Satch and Josh" CD is great |
|
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 04:10 PM by moof
"Jumpin at the woodside" from Satch & Josh will make you think you are back in the day.
Or go to the Library and see if you can rent the PBS series "Jazz" by Ken Burns. It has lots of the greats in it if you want to explore more.

could outswing anybody. Try Count Basie's excellent "April in Paris" CD. Vocally, nobody swings harder than Ella, but Anita O'Day can swing like a mother, too.
