So last night my buddy decided he needed to give me a talking to
Edited on Sat Jun-12-04 04:22 PM by HEyHEY
Regarding my constant lack of a girlfriend. Now, before we dismiss this as some dink, you gotta realize he's been a friend since age six, so he's not out of bounds.
Anyway, he wanted to know "What the problem is." He didnt assume I'm gay (which I'm not) but he figured there was some kind of deep-seeded reason I'm always single.
I moan about being single on DU sometimes, mainly it's just for sake of conversation. But truly, I don't mind being single. And I think it's funny how everyone out there assumes there is something wrong with you because you don't run around with your dick out chasing girls.
I told him, that's just the way things are.
(Edit: I was kind of bothered that he sort of tried to make me feel like there is something wrong with me, and that I was just making excuses)

1. Isn't it strange?
Damned if you do, damned if you don't in our culture, eh?

3. All those beautiful Canadian women...
I know I could not do it, but it is wrong for anyone to consider it wrong. I went through a stage after a bad break-up where I saw virtually anybody, friends or otherwise. It was quite helpful.

5. Maybe you're gay and don't know it?

Just brainstorming...

Yeah, there's pros and cons to being single, and to being attached. I prefer attached, myself, but I think it's just a matter of preference.

And there's nothing worse than being with someone just to fill some sort of need or void in your life.

That's what porn is for.

ugh...typos

6. No, I've decided I'm not gay
I was curious about it for a while. But nope.

I would like to meet a nice girl, but then I think of how much it would change my life.

9. I was telling a story of a recent encounter
Where a girl I met was interested (Yes it does happen) and she wanted to dance. I was wearing a suit, cause it was at a conference, in some redneck bar in a redneck town. Between me and the washroom were a bunch of rednecks looking for trouble, I had to pee before dancing.
I told her, "Well I would, but I have to pee..." ANd she says "And you're too lazy to do that?" (with a laugh)

I said "Yup!"

My friend's girlfriedn just said "I can't hear anymore of this, don't tell me stories like that. You should have danced. But don't say 'I have to pee'"

I thought "I have to pee" was a lot better than saying "I'm scared of those guys over there"

10. There's nothing wrong with you!
If you are happy and content being single, then stay single.

11. some people are just happy single
Sounds like me and my car. I know I need to get a new one but the old one runs fine and there's just no motivation to go car shopping other than status, which means zip to me. So I just drive my old car and if I need a new one for business or something, I drive my husband's 2003.

I often say that I'd take a new car if someone came up to me and said, "Here's a new car. Drive it. You don't have to pay for it nor do you have to do any paperwork with the insurance." I'd take a new car under those circumstances. Even then I'd probably be annoyed that I'd have to learn how to operate the gizmos.

You must be happy with your status as it is. Otherwise, you'd work to change it.

Cher

p.s. another thing that I thought of in reference to this is that years ago I took a personality profile. From this I learned that people have varying degrees of the "need for closeness and affection." Airlines give this profile when they decide on candidates for pilots. They've learned that people who score high on that aspect are not good candidates for the position of airline pilot. It could be that your need for closeness and affection is not all that high. Doesn't make you a bad person; that's just the way you are.
