What sports franchises should never have been formed?
I'll list mine by sport:

NFL: Arizona Cardinals - Last championship was 57 years ago, one playoff victory in the last 57 years.

MLB: Tampa Bay Devil Rays - their uniforms are horrible, their stadium is even worse, their play is the worst of all

NBA: Los Angeles Clippers - It's not just that they suck, it's the fact that even if they were good, no one in Los Angeles would notice

NHL: Atlanta Thrashers - would anyone in Atlanta even notice if they were gone?

1. well
the Clippers didn't start in LA, they started in San Diego. The owner moved them to LA because he got a good deal w/an arena there.

I wish they'd move 'em back, or eliminate them.

In the NBA, they should have stopped expanding about 6 teams ago, at 24. Now they're up to 30, which is just too many.

4. Actually
The Clippers started in Buffalo:
from
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=tortured/buffalo

4. The Braves depart for San Diego, 1978
The Buffalo Braves were one of three expansion teams that began play in the NBA in 1970. After struggling early in their existence, the Braves made the postseason in three consecutive years (1974-76), led by coach Dr. Jack Ramsay and star player Bob McAdoo. McAdoo was named the NBA's MVP in 1975. But the team struggled again after ownership changes during the 1976-77 season, and the team left Buffalo for San Diego after the 1977-78 season, where they became the Clippers.

I switched to the Pistons in honour of their win, on my own. I'll keep that up for a few days, then go back to normal.

Let us not forget that the only ABA team to win an NBA title is my beloved San Antonio Spurs. :-)

2. Here ya go
NFL: Arizona Cardinals...pathetic...though Denny Green is a great coach, if anyone can bring them around he can

MLB: Florida Marlins. World Series champs and they still can't draw a crowd to their games. Second Choice NY Yankees ... cause I HATE 'EM

NBA: Toronto Raptors...

NHL: Half the league...they expanded way too much

40. World Series *chumps* have never even won their division
they keep sleazing in through the wild card.

The wild card should become an AL-only thing, like the DH. Why? Because in the AL, it helps primarily the Red Sox (yay), while in the NL, it too often benefits the Piranhas (a fish that's foreign and eats human flesh).

If there is a God, and She truly despises fascists, Bush*ies, etc., then why is Flori-duh dominant in seemingly every sport, instead of being a hundred feet or so beneath the Gulf of Mexico?

7. Classic version

St Louis Browns....big-time losers...only made WS once and that was because we were in the middle of WWII and MLB was using anybody they find as players, the best thing this organization ever did was move to Baltimore and become the Orioles...a very successful team(not recently).

Seattle Pilots....yes there was a MLB team in Seattle in the late '60...they didn't last long and they shouldn't have ever come into existance.

If it weren't for Hubie Brown,I would say the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies but he turned that franchise into a winner.

The Dallas Cowboys...no reason...just hate them.

five cop cars waiting to pull into the drive-thru at Krispy Kreme. :-)

With the impending lockout, the once-proud Cup is now doomed to spend two full years on display outside the guard shack at some cheesy "retirement village". Hopefully the massive local NRA contingent will refrain from using it for target practice...

As for me, I'll be following Major League Soccer from now on. Why? No Florida teams! They folded both the Miami Fusion and Tampa Bay :puke: Mutiny before the 2001 season, setting a precedent that unfortunately failed to catch on elsewhere.

50. I flew into Tampa while that was going on, and returned right after
We flew into Tampa and drove to Disney World, then drove back to Tampa a week later, right after they won. I've lived in Dallas for two Super Bowls, and in Austin when San Antonio won the NBA Championship. Here in Austin, we won the college World Series a couple of years ago. Everybody in all three cities celebrated, partied, put team flags on their cars...

I didn't see anything in Tampa about the Cup. Wouldn't have known it if I hadn't read it somewhere else.

34. Team, not "a team." A team with a collective name
implies a group of individuals. A team with a singular name implies a unit without individual egos. That's why they do it.

I don't care, I was just being flippant. Though I think "Jazz" is a great name-- for a New Orleans team, anyway.

35. Then it's just a matter of taste.
The Pistons won the NBA championship by playing like a team - and without a collective nickname.

I just think those names sound ridiculous, that's all. "Uh-oh, the Minnesota Wild is / are coming to town!"

Eek.

Like I said, it's just a matter of taste.

some of my favorite bands have some of the worst names. Good example: Foghat.

Now that I think of it, it's the opposite with music - I prefer singular names over The Cars, The Beatles, The Monkees, etc.

Damndest thing. I never thought of it, so thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Edited on Wed Jun-16-04 04:13 PM by No2W2004
NFL: Yep, the Bidwells are a joke.
MLB: The (Chicago) Tribune Company. For intentioninally not trying to win for years and years, and also for buying back unsued season tickets and then reselling them thru their own scalping company.
NHL: Bill Wirtz is the worst owner in sports. STILL refuses to show home games because he thinks it will hurt ticket sales. Owns all the liquor distributerships in Illinois, but won't spend any money.
NBA: Does the Hawks owner know anything about basketball? Just askin...
