I thought when you dropped the Am. falg to half mast, all others must drop as well. I passed by a huge church here in town and they dropped the Am. flag (which is huge btw) but they did not drop their 'church flag'.
Is that proper etiquette?

No flag is to fly at a height greater than that at which the US flag flies.
I stayed at a hotel in Atlanta over the weekend. The US flag was at half-staff, but the corporate flag was all the way up there.

I was informed no flag should ever fly higher than the American flag.
except..
During church services on a Naval vessel. It was during Airman Leadership School, so I don't know if it's true.

4. Nothing flies above the US Ensign... |
|
On the same HOIST.
All flags of entities subservient to the U.S. must be lowered beneath or equal to (but in inferior position) if the U.S. flag is half masted.
The church could argue that thier faith isn't subservient to the United States. The corparation probably would, also.
Aboard U.S. Warships "At Sea", during services held by a Navy Chaplain, the worship pennant of the appropriate faith is flown adjacent and above the U.S. flag. (See NTP-13, "Flags, Penants, Honors and Cermonies", chapter 2, page 2.)
Signalman 1st Class (Surface Warfare) Hawker Hurricane, who did this stuff for far too long.

8. MSGT's are never wrong. |

Misguided, bullheaded, mistaken, maybe. But never wrong.

5. Wrong! Call the church -- or PM me their phone number. I will call them. |
|
ALL other flags must be below the stars & stripes.
I saw one that was even more offensive than that: The U.S. and D.C. flags were down, and the McDonald's flag was up. :grr:
