I've not had one before and would appreciate any blender advice that you may have.

1. I have a KitchenAid "Ultra Power" blender...
chops ice, rocks, bones... whatever you put in it... Well, it definitely does the ice well. :)

2. Vita Mix
Try eBay, they're better used than just about anything else new.

I just got the low-end T-Fal MagicClean ... mainly for blending ... I don't think it's big on ice crushing, although it has a special ice crushing feature button ..

6. I'm not planning to go into ice crushing as a profession
I just want to be able to make drinks with crushed ice and not have to worry about it destroying my blender.

7. QVC has a Smoothie Machine they sell
There are also some brands of Smoothie machines at departments stores.

They are made for grinding ice and have some neat features to help with it.

12-speed with the Funnel-shaped container. It rocks. I make a slushy shake for my evening meal a lot of nights.

I'm looking at a couple of Osters one has glass and one has plastic. Any arguments in favor of one substance over the other?
