• 2 lb yak burger
• 1/2 green pepper (chopped)
• 1 onion (chopped)
• 2 T chili powder
• 1 T celery salt
• 1 can green chiles chopped
• 1 can (15oz) black beans
• 1 can (15oz) kidney beans
• 1 can (15oz) butter beans
• 2 C V-8 juice

Brown the yak burger adding the chopped onion towards the end of the browning. Add all the ingredients together in a large pot on your stove. Bring to a simmer and let the flavors blend together. Its ready to serve immediately or keep it warm and the flavors will continue to blend for a delicious and hearty soup that can be served all day long.

But why do I want to save 10,000 yaks? Are they endangered?

Moral calculus like this only really applies to humans, I think.

A lot of dogs died so that I (and thousands of other people, of course) could get a stent put in my right cardiac artery. If the dogs hadn't died, I would have. I like dogs (more or less), but I have no regrets.

Every medical student vivisects several cats (and I love cats) and a few puppies. That's the price we pay for qualified doctors, and for lowering infant mortality and increasing the human lifespan and generally increasing the quality of (human) life.

Shall I assume you eschew the products of the butcher, the doctor, and the pharmacist, or do you adhere to the fiction that as long as its not your hands that get bloody, you're consumption of those products isn't driving the whole system?

If the latter, that's what, like Bush calling Rumsfeld the best Defense Secretary ever, and Rumsfeld okaying torture and then saying that all the fault belongs to the seven enlisted sadists at Abu Ghraib?

Or like Pontius Pilate washing his hands of it all?

I simply don't think we are more important in the grand scheme of things. nature would continue on w/o us. I dare say the same can't be said for us in the absense of Nature.
