Either that or Alice in Chains, perhaps Mother Love Bone...

1. Ah, Mother Love Bone...
Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns is one of my all time favorite songs.

3. "Window Shop for Love"
One of my favorites. Though with the Wipers it's hard to pick just one.

I was grateful for the break in the heat, personally.

4. You like the Wipers!!!
Hi flamingyouth! :hi:
OMG that's awesome! But then you love the Fall too!
Did you get my little joke? rain-wipers...ha ha!? (ok a small, very small joke)
I like "I Don't Know What I Am" and "Over the Edge" just off the top of my head...
Guess what cd I bought yesterday! Ok I'll tell ya..."The Elvis of Letters" ep by William Burroughs and Gus Van Sant...Ever hear it? If not I'd think you would like it...I have it on vinyl but now on cd!...4 "songs", "Burroughs Break", "Word is Virus", "Millions of Images", and "The Hipster Be-Bop Junkie"...Greg Sage plays guitar so I've been in a Wipers mood for that reason alone today...

I did a few posters for NW and traveling acts in the late 80s and 90s, if you're interested I could post the link! (they're online for about a year now)....Just if you or anyone else in interested...

anyways, nice to hear from you and hope you're doing ok?

5. Oh yeah, I love them
I saw them a bunch of times in the '80s too. Greg Sage moved to Arizona. I don't know if he's still playing. But the Wipers were a great, totally underrated NW band. I'm glad they got some publicity in "Hype!" and were on the soundtrack, but I don't think they get nearly enough credit.

Hell, yeah, I'd love to see those posters you designed. I'm sure you know of Art Chantry - he was a friend of ours. We used to go down to his old studio on Western in Seattle and he'd let us use his darkroom, and also go through his myriad stacks of paper and files. He moved to St. Louis a few years ago with his girlfriend when she got a better job. He was pissed at Seattle, and really mad when the Kingdome was imploded. That just sort of topped it all off for him.

I do know that Burroughs/Van Sant EP you're talking about. I think my husband had it - it's probably somewhere down in the basement. I don't know when I'll have the heart to go through all of those records of his. I might turn it into a museum. Thanks for thinking of me! :D

6. well here you go then...
I only have 21 posters uploaded, I did more but didn't think they were of sufficient quality...I did get a few comments, Mike King remembered me! I think of it as my little anonymous claim to fame!

http://www.gigposters.com/designers.php?designer=16594

Art Chantry at the time I was active at that site seemed to be the subject of a running joke..."Art Chantry has left the building!"

It sounds like you were much closer to the scene than an outsider like me...Portland bands were always secondary to the Seattle ones but we did have some good groups like the Obituaries (I heard they recently reformed in New York), the Wipers, the Miracle Workers, the Dharma Bums, Poison Idea, and of course Dead Moon...a good friend of mine is in Smegma and he used to do sound for the Blue Gallery, like the time Nirvana played in front of about 30 people! I was there before it got really huge (which was quite bewildering!)
The turn-off point for me was when Mia Zapata was murdered...they were the ultimate live band to see at the time and I was so depressed I lost interest...

7. Those are some great posters!
Very cool! Thanks so much for posting the link!!

I can't believe you designed a Yard Trauma poster! Lee Joseph was a good friend of my husband's. He was way more the scene-guy than I was, to be honest. I was more along for the ride as the wife of the guy in the band. But I did know lots of people back in the late '80s when I wrote for the Daily at the UW. Alan also did some articles for the Rocket and the Stranger way back when.

LOL ... "Art Chantry has left the building." I love it. His quote in "Hype!" is classic, think, "The Northwest is where flying saucers, the term flying saucers, was coined. The Northwest is where 'Louie Louie' is from... we have more unsolved serial killings than anyplace else in the United States. This place is WEIRD. It's like one of those end-of-the-world places, like you can't go no further and still be in the US." :7

I miss Mia Zapata probably more than anyone else from that era. The Gits were such a fucking great band, and really, really cool people. What a fucking disgrace her murder was. I'm just grateful they caught the guy, for what it's worth. Not that he can ever repay what he took away from her family, her band, her friends and all of us.

:hi:

9. LOL - you should see the sorority pic of me I found tonight
I'd post it except I'm not sure my two friends would appreciate being up on this site dressed in pink '50s shirts and poodle skirts with me. (Yes, it was that bad!) Oh man, those were the days in the good Pac-10 schools, eh? :eyes:

15. Now now!
the EMU is the UO! The OSU has the MU! I know because I went to UO 2 years then transferred!
I was at OSU 84-87 so I missed you! Pat Fogerty was the Barometer editor soon after I left he was my apprentice at KBVR! Was he around when you were there?
Brandon Lieberman was KBVR station manager for most of my tenure there,, he has his show "Drinking From Puddles" on KBOO for years now and I credit him for giving me the airspace slots! Over one summer I was on the air 18 hours a week! I did a 60s specialty show plus the usual new stuff, ...perhaps the apex era of college radio! Yeah, those were the days....

Across the street from the MU?

Could be I'm confusing the buildings (wife is a Duck, and we do go back to Eugene a bit...)

17. You're welcome for the thanks!
Frankly I'm shocked to find someone who knows about Yard Trauma! How about the Mad Violets?
It's funny how so much great 80s music is so obscure!
With respect I've gotten the impression your late husband was in a band? Might I inquire as to which band? Please feel free to pm me or use my real email address available at the poster site I linked to earlier, that is if you feel so inclined...I just think you're a nice person to exchange messages with.
