I've never seen it, never been much of a fan of the TV show, but hearing "Suicide Is Painless" on last night's AFI'S 100 Years, 100 Songs has got me wanting context...

it was just another one of those boy movies. had it's moments, sure, if you're a boy marinated in war stuff.

The Series was quite much more acceptable, but not quite sure.

If it's Hollywood, it stinks, and it lies.

15. If you're willing to give Altman another shot...

rent " 3 Women" with Shelly Duvall and Sissy Spacek...it just came out on dvd and even though it came out in 1977 was never released on video.

I see your point with M*A*S*H*, I had seen the first few years of the series before I saw the film and watching Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould as Hawkeye and Trapper John was disarming...Plus the football game at the end reminded me of "The Longest Yard", definitely a "guy film" even though it came out later.

Just my opinion of course!

16. Actually....

it was an anti-war film. So much so, the military withheld their cooperation.

The only violence is actually in the football game.
