1. Don't see anything.

Just save the photo to your hard drive, resize it using some sort of photo editor, and upload it to an image host that allows "hot-linking". I doubt that it's the size, as I've seen some HUGE sigs here (coughcough). It's probably the host.

A decent free photo editor is The Gimp. Not as fancy as Adobe Photoshop, but hey, it's free! http://www.gimp.com/

4. download yourself a free version of irfanview

the free version has a fairly easy Image/ Resize option and you can tell it how many pixels you want the final image to have.

I think it's at www.irfanview.com. Trust me, you'll like it.
