Did you see what just happened at Wimbledon?
The ump. gave Venus' opponent Karolina Sprem an extra point and nobody said anything so the set went on and Venus ended up losing, when she actually won! Had the score been corrected, she would have won the set! I can't believe nobody said anything. The announcers were going crazy!

2. They looked a little confused
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 01:54 PM by SiouxJ
but nobody said anything. They just went on as if nothing had happened but ESPN kept the real score on TV for awhile even though there was a different one on court. Amazing!

4. How strange.
How sad for someone to lose on an official's mistake, too. Getting beaten is one thing...

5. Press conference coming up soon
that will be interesting. They said nothing like this has ever happened. Such a blatant mistake!

7. I'd be pissed!
A distinctly unhappy camper!

I wish I could go home and watch.

13. Martina playing now
I think it's so cool that she's making an attempt. Go Martina!

Just saw the press conference with Venus. She looked really, really sad but showed a lot of class. Din't complain.

6. Too bad for Venus
she got lots of calls she didn't deserve too, like phantom out calls on the sidelines. Dumb mistake by the umpire, but these things even out. I don't think she would have ended up winning the set, though--the strategies change with each situation and Venus was only up 2-1 (or 3-1) when the umpire made the phantom call.

I for one am glad to see her gone from the tournament. Sher is NOT one of my favorites.

9. True
she may not have won but like the announcers were saying, at one point she was actually way ahead when she thought she was very close; psychologically, knowing that might have given her the confidence to win.

I'm sad to see her go down. I love watching her play.

10. It wasn't a bad call, it was the ump screwing up on the score
he just added a point out of the blue during a tie breaker and nobody questioned it.

12. There's a difference between making a bad call
And giving someone and extra touchdown or run. This makes absolutely no sense.

14. So Richard and Venus Williams both have said
that one point didn't matter in their post match press conferences.

In fact, they both know that Venus got lots of calls in her favor through the match they didn't deserve. Mistakes.

What's wierder to me is that Martina Hingis is an announcer for this stuff. I wish she were playing instead.

15. Good for her for handling it well....I don't think she would have won
without the mistake, but you never know.

It's just too bad that it had to happen.
