9. Thanks for the suggestion. |

We went by there this afternoon and had Singapore Slings in the long bar. We also went strolling over along the Singapore river to the Boat Quay and the Raffles Quay. The river area dates back to the late 1800's. Apparently, Singapore was quite a bustling place even back then.
Tonight I think we're going back to the river area for dinner and then to the other side of the island to visit the Night Safari Zoo.

I'll definitely go check out the Raffles. I don't think it is very far from where I'm staying.

7. The historian in me suggests... |

the old WW2 Headquarters. Also, the old fortifications.
There is a myth that the big naval guns could not be turned to landward, which made them useless against the Japanese invasion... actually, the problem was they had only been issued armor piercing shells, which are pretty much useless against infantry hiding in the jungle.

Bird park is definitely worth seeing, little India (can't remember the road name now), and the Hindu temple (Take your shoes off)
Also there's a wonderful museum of South East Asian art, one of the only museums devoted solely to SEA art. If you go by the tourist center at the Raffles MRT stop there are plenty of brochures with maps. have fun!
Edited to add - go out to Sentosa Island and relive the WWII underground caves.

12. Just got back from the Night Zoo. |
|
The night safari was really cool. Lots of really neat nocturnal animals. The leopards were impressive. The high point was the bat aviary, the fruit bats are enormous. We got to watch one eating an orange from about 2 feet away.
