Fudge stripe's Official "4 Months Til Halloween!" Thread
Okay everyone--

reprehensor and I are having a huge liberal Halloween party this year. I've surfed and surfed and surfed, collecting ideas willy nilly for scary music, scary food, scary decor, and great fun.

I've got extensive lists of props and toys I'm buying, mp3s I'm recording, food I'm cooking, etc.

I'm checking in with all you evilDUers, cuz everyone knows you guys have awesome, creative ideas for stuff. I may already have your idea on my list, but hit me anyway. Maybe I don't!

Share anything Halloween with me.

And if you're in/near Dallas (or WILL be on Saturday October 30th), PM me so I can add you to the list!

1. Music and punch
Download some music by the group Scorn. I have their cd's playing out of the dining room window when the kids come up for tricks or treats, and it scares the poop out of 'em.

I once made a Halloween party punch out of cranberry juice, Hi-C fruit punch and lots of dark food coloring (I honestly don't remember what color I used... black? brown?). Anyway, I got a really creepy blood-red color working... maybe it was just the Gosling's Black Seal rum that fixed the color up so nice. Then I peeled some large, round, red seedless grapes and dumped them in. VERY interesting mouth feel to a peeled seedless grape.

2. Great Idea!!
We can all come to the party dressed as either our favorite liberal or progressive, or as the conservative we most love to hate. Asskroft mask anyone?

7. We've already had 2 folks threatening to show as Repubs...
and scare the bejeezus out of everyone.

I'm making at least one creature for the front of the house, based on the Halloween mask, 2 x 4's, chickenwire, PVC pipe, and "monster mud" (black paint mixed with joint compound) concept.

Also, lots of cool tombstones, and a graveyard fence. And other cool goodies.

We'll have our pond totally finished by then, so it can be an indoor/outdoor party. We should have fish in it by then, but it'd be so cool if dry ice wouldn't kill the fish! Damn ichtyolites. They're such spoil sports.

We're also having a costume contest and a jack-o-lantern contest!

3. OMG, I better get cracking with my own plans
Gotta come up with new, improved ways to scare the kids in my 'hood. Have a reputation to maintain. Let me mull this over a bit today.

5. You are the most cutting edge guy, R!!
Where did you find out about this whole dressing up thing? It sounds like fun! I may have to try it!

Right now I'm tossing around either Judy Jetson or the Church Lady.

:loveya:

Will Reprehensor be Jet Screamer? --> Kinda looks like him, no?

In honor of your possible theme, here are my favorite TV theme song lyrics, in their entirety: Fill in the swingin' brass arrangement yourself:

Meet George Jetson
His boy Elroy
Daughter Judy
Jane his wife. :D

23. Hey Richardo--
You know any sources for Jetson's mp3s? Like for Jet Screamer songs? I'm not sure about reprehensor. He's usually pretty independent about Halloween. Except the year we got married. He had my handprints all over his back.

It has been entirely too long since I've seen a Jetsons episode! If I can't get up to speed, it may be Church Lady. I'm such a Halloween purist.

My last few costumes, in order:
2003 (nothing) :( I had an off year to prepare for THIS year!
2002 (Joan Crawford with wire hanger and cool 40s 'do)
2001 (the Queen Mum, complete with purse, white gloves, and stuffed Corgi)
2000 (Bonnie & Clyde combo with reprehensor--their famous outfits with fake shotguns, and blood spots all over us)
1999 (Maxine, the old lady Hallmark card character)
1998 (Titanic victim with dead blue baby & life preserver)
1997 (Courtney Love)

Did I mention i LOVE Halloween?

...And that means "I love you". - Jet Screamer :D

Sorry FSC, I'm not "hep to the jive" (as the kids say) about where to get mp3s of ANYTHING, let alone Jetsons songs. My desktop at home is a pre-mp3 model, and we only get dial-up service at the house, so downloading files is problematic anyway. :eyes:

But none of that whining is getting you music, is it? :hurts: <-- Richardo's pity pot

13. WTF? There is no better holiday, period, IMHO
While I haven't done anything like that in a couple of years (no longer have a yard, nor do I host parties often), decorating for Halloween beats setting up a Christmas tree by a long shot!

You should take pictures of your setup, I like the lab idea!

17. No worries!
Pictures will definitely be forthcoming in the days following the event (when I recover from the toxic waste punch I'm planning on making)

I borrowed the lab idea, but plan on taking it much further (one guess as to the items that will be sitting around in jars, if it's a "liberal" party!)

I am taking 2 days off ahead of time to decorate, clean, cook, and set up props. I LOVE decorating for Halloween!

11. Last Halloween, I brought a kitty litter cake to my friend's
party, as the theme was creepy food. I found the recipe on the internet. The best part are the shaped Tootsie Rolls! A friend of mine brought "lice" crispy treats. She made regular crispy treats, but dyed the cereal a purply-grey.

12. I thought about that....
but I'm not going for GROSS food so much as I am scary food. I don't want to gross people out so much they won't be able to eat. I'm walking a fine line.

I've seen listings for "Creepy Cuisine" which is the name of the one big Halloween cookbook, but I've found most of the recipes online already.

I'm glad I'm not on your block! We just don't have that many down here. I'll have to keep a candy stash near the door and deputize some people.

This'll be the night before (Sat 30th), so maybe we'll miss some of it.
