question mozilla and firefox.......
Just downloaded and installed mozilla 1.7 but now wonder if I should have firefox instead....

this is from mozilla site http://www.mozilla.org/press/mozilla-2004-06-15.html

Later this week, the Foundation will also release a new version of its Internet suite, Mozilla 1.7 (including a web browser, mail client, Internet Relay Chat client and web page editor), and a new preview release of Thunderbird, its standalone email application.

GETTING FIREFOX
Firefox 0.9 is available as a free download from www.mozilla.org. Users can also purchase an affordable CD edition from the Mozilla project's web site. Mozilla applications run on a wide range of operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux, and are translated into dozens of languages. All source code and documentation is freely available under the open source Mozilla Public License.

1. Firefox is just the browser part of the Mozilla project
Mozilla 1.7 has integrated web, email, irc, kitchen sink. Firefox is faster

2. Firefox is just the browser
Firefox is just the browser -- the Mozilla suite is browser, email, etc.

Firefox seems faster and more responsive.

But both are built -- with extensive modifications -- on the same code base.

3. I Like Firefox Much Better
Smaller, faster and infinitely customizable to one's needs and preferences.

16. The email client in Mozilla is fine..
me, I've been using Eudora for years and it works for me. Tried the email clients in Opera and Mozilla, and a few other standalone clients. They all work, I just prefer Eudora. Other people prefer other clients.

I should note that I prefer Eudora because I get well over a hundred emails a day, and it does a great job of filtering the listserves, organizations I volunteer for, business, and personal. With a dozen or so different identities. It would take something REALLY better to get me to do all that configuring from scratch.

If you do Usenet, think seriously about paying for Agent. It's mail and news, like Outhouse Express, and does both about as well as anyone else.

5. If you're only using it to browse..
Firefox doesn't load you up with the other stuff. Features are pretty much the same.

Eventually, they'll probably dump the suite anyway. They've been rumbling about it for a while.

6. I have used both
prefer Mozilla since I rely on the email client. If I used Firefox I needed to also open Mozilla. I set up a computer for my Father in law the other day and only used Firefox since he wanted to stay with Outlook Express. () He has commented that the internet connection is much better now.

11. You can move stuff over via import
I can't use it at work, so can't walk you through it, but its easy and painless - its a similar import to what you did with the address book.

14. I have no experience with the Mozilla package...........
but I DL'ed Firefox and Thunderbird separately. I find I really don't need all the "kitchen sink" features of Mozilla 1.7. Transferring your IE favs and your address book is a breeze. There are utilities that make the whole thing simple.
