Next Must-See Movie: "Silver City" |
|
Saw a preview of this before Moore's film, and it looks promising. Chris Cooper plays a Chimp-like politician in the pocket of an ultra-rich developer played by Kris Kristofferson. Cooper's character utters simplistic homilies and stumbles through speeches. When I said out loud, "He looks familiar!", I got a laugh from the F-9/11-primed crowd.
All-star cast too - should be fun! (For those who undervalue my sense of fun, I say fuck off, Cheney-style!)

1. Cooper is a talented actor and a remarkable human. |
|
His Oscar speech included a brief, apolitical comment on war that I found to be honest and heartfelt. Oddly enough, he was terrific as the right-wing, closeted homosexual father in "American Beauty".

He will always be the befuddled but good-hearted Sheriff July Johnson in "Lonesome Dove".
I remember that Oscar comment - it warmed us up, coincidentally, for Moore that night. :-)

17. Me too. Love CC! If F9-11 won't play here, I doubt SC will be allowed. n/ |

2. That's a John Sayles film |
|
That means it is all but guaranteed to be excellent. He's a liberal, too. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0376890/

It looks to me that Cooper is skwering Bush with his performance, and Kristofferson is a Chomskyite radical in real life. Good guys all around.

3. I saw that trailer, too. |
|
Do you remember when they said it would be in theaters. I did a web search and the only site I came up with said it was in post production and no release date. I hope it comes out in October and is a blockbuster.

That trailer totally cracked my shit up...especially the Cheney-esque guy sneering and stuff. What a great summer for movies this is shaping up to be. :)

13. Sorry, but I think "the Corporation"... |

is far more important to watch than Silver City. But that's just me.. :)
Plus The Corporation is already out, just not many people know about it...;)

I love John Sayles movies, and Chris Cooper was great in Sayles' "Lone Star," an excellent movie that I'd strongly recommend if you haven't seen it. Actually, Cooper has been in several John Sayles films.

20. I was talking about this movie earlier |
|
I saw the preview today too and I have to say Cooper has the Chimpy smirk down to a t, and even his accent and manner of speech. I really can't wait for this one! The tie-in with F911 was a stroke of genius when it comes to marketing.
