Six Feet Under tonight.. WTF? |
|
Don't get me wrong.. it was a great episode.. but with a major flaw...
They just have the girl drop dead inexplicably at the beginning and then never mention it again? (except that part at the door with her parents and Arthur)..
They didn't tie it in to the story like the usually do, or at least explain how she died or show that there is the funeral going on in the Fisher house. I'm not even sure I saw a white screen for her.
Seems like they were just trying to get the death out of the way to get on with what's going on with the characters.... I have no problem with dealing almost exclusively with the characters situations... but that was a part of SFU that I always expect and should always be there.
That's why I give this episode 2 thumbs up as usual, but recognizing a major flow. I will rescind this critique if they go into detail on the girl's death next episode.
(Okay, they did have a white screen, I remember now)

Federico's dream of sex and Christianity mixed together. Bizarre!

2. I wasn't too thrilled tonight either... |
|
I missed the first ten minutes or so-i was at the movies seeing Fahrenheit 9/11. the flow was definitely weird.
I'll watch it tomorrow night on On Demand.

4. My assumption about how the girl died: |
|
She was laughing it up with the other girls, fell backward off the bed, and hit her head on the floor. But you're right. They didn't go anywhere with it.
I thought there were some good scenes in this episode, but it really didn't come together for me like some of the others.

His character is still the one I'm most interested in. Life just seems to fuck with him constantly.
Anyone have any idea what the song was at the end... Claire put the speaker in the window, and blared the song while they watched their bonfire?
Also, I don't think I'm gonna miss Arthur.

I don't recall the name of the song. HBO lists the music credits on their website, but they lag behind on new episodes

7. "I can't get this girl to stop smiling" |

That's what Rico said when he was working on her. I suspect that we are to take away some message from that. Perhaps some lesson about the absurdity of life or some such.
One thing they don't do on this show, and that is spoon feed you.

Let me say that I love the show... I mean I haven't liked or appreciated a television show for it's quality in every aspect as I do SFU ever I think.
And I will continue to be a loyal fan, regardless, as even a bad SFU episode is great TV as far as I am concerned..
Now with that caveat I'll say what I was going to say...
I have resisted this notion thus far when brought up by others, but I have to admit that's there is a slight possibility that show may be in the process of, or has already.. jumped the shark.
I tragedy if it's true... and I hope they pull it together. Something really sinister and juicy with George might do the trick, or some really neck snapping plot twist like in the first few seasons... Why did the have Arthur leave? They introduced that character and never really did much with him.. it's a shame.
The plot line with Brenda and her new boyfriend.. please!..spare me. If that's what Alan Ball things we want to see more of, he's lost his mind. Also Nate having more meaningless sex and then just feeling shitty and being a jerk about it? please... they need to do something better with Nate too. I think they might be doing a little better with Claire, but that art-school hate everything condescending attitude is so completely played out, they need to have her mature a little. David and Keith's plot line seems to be doing okay.. we'll see what happens with Keith's new job...
