Hi. My name is Duckie, and I'm addicted to ice. |
|
I have to admit it. I'm addicted to this frozen water substance. I have to have a ton of it in my beverages. Why is it when I go someplace and ask for extra ice, they give me less Ice? There is a place here in Oklahoma and the surrounding areas called Sonic. They have this little pellet ice that is just fantabulous. So, I like to go in there, get a soda or a limeade, and order extra ice. Sometimes even EXTRA EXTRA ice. And usually, I get less ice. So I get the bright idea tonight to get an EXTRA CUP of ice. I pay $0.15 for this 20 ounce cup of ice. Do they bother filling it up? no. It's like 2 inches from the top. You'd think that if you PAY for a CUP of ice, they'd at least FILL IT UP! But no. You'd be wrong. I'm a little pissed that these A-HOLES are being STINGY WITH FROZEN WATER!! DAmmit... Thanks for the rant. Duckie

1. Sonic has terrific ice. |
|
But I would not suggest you go to Europe any time soon - they do not use ice in their drinks.

12. yes, in most places you can |
|
But I'd rather put a bottle into a frozen wine cooler than put ice in my drink. Just a warning: tests have shown that the ice at some places can contain dangerous levels of germs.
You, see, European Softdrinks are less sweet and don't really require to be watered down with ice.

3. I was hooked on chewing ice |

Turned out I was severely anemic, and had developed pica, a condition where you crave non-nutritive items, like ice, paint chips, dirt...Weird huh? I started getting my anemia treated and the ice craving disappeared immediately!

This has been a life long thing. And my sister got me started on it. I've been checked...I think it's just that I like cold stuff. I eat popcicles a lot too. Duckie

This could mean that you're anemic. I used to chew ice all the time. I would suck down whatever beverage it was in, just so I could get to the ice. Finally, I just gave up on the beverage and started taking my ice straight. Then, while I was right in the middle of doing so, they said on the news "do you chew ice? you could be anemic." Well, it turns out that I really was, and severely. Since I have corrected the problem, I haven't craved ice since.

My sister got me hooked on ice when I was a kid. It has nothing to do with me being anemic. I've been checked. Don't worry. I just enjoy a good crunch. And these bastards here at this dorm don't have an ice machine. Duckie

13. I had an ice crusher. Easier on the teeth |
|
My dentist thinks that's how I cracked my tooth. How about a snowcone machine, LOL! I would have done anything for one of them, back when I was chewing ice. Just be careful of your teeth. The one I cracked was under a crown and I had to have it extracted.x(

14. I've never had a cavity, only had to have two teeth pulled... |
|
And they were stubborn baby teeth that no matter what I did wouldn't come out. My teeth are very healthy, from what my dentist tells me. Ice must be working. Duckie

18. Just be careful, as chewing ice can crack teeth |
|
That's what happened to me, according to my dentist, and she is very good and I trust her. My mother used to warn me, but I would never give her the satisfaction of telling her that she was right.

15. I am also an ice addict... |
|
I use tons of it in my beverages (I don't eat it plain, however).
When I lived in Europe, people would always get on my back about it saying, "Isn't that unhealthy?" or something to that effect. Meanwhile, they were usually on their third pack of cigarettes that day.
I don't see the harm in it, as long as you aren't stealing to support your habit! :)

Inspectors regularly find unbelievable amounts of germs in Ice Cubes - especially in Southern Europe. Let's just hope that none of those cubes are discovered in Iraq...

by asking for more ice, you're saving them money!
Strange they'd short you on ice...
I work for an Indian-based corporation, so most of the employees are from India, and they don't use it... they've told me that drinking iced beverages is why USians' voices are lower... curious, no?

19. I too require massive quantities of ice daily... |
|
Definitely not anemic, I just like the texture and temperature. I chew on crushed ice (as gently as possible), and put in nearly all beverages.
I always feel a twinge of disappointment when the ice in my glass is gone!
