Ever read obituaries?
I read one this morning for a guy born the same day and year and in the same city as me. I know I'm not immortal, but it was a little freaky.

And when they don't say why the person died, I am left wondering what happened. Was he sick for a long time, or was it sudden?

ANYwho.

1. A friend of mine says he reads the obits every day
to see if everyone died in alphabetical order.

3. I found out my grandfather died when I saw his obit
I read them every day.

I knew he was sick but no one bothered to tell me he had passed away. Talk about a shock.

"Ever read obituaries?"

Yes, the Supreme Court just published one for the Sixth Amendment.

5. I read online obituaries from where I grew up
I feel the need to know if anyone I knew died or members of their family. I am 26. As far as I know, one of my high school classmates died in a car accident. One of my high school classmates is already a widow with 2 children. A few of the have lost parents. Several of my grandparents friends have died as well as some former local politicians. It is just another reminder that my hometown cannot remain the same as I left it.

7. Yes, everyday
many of my clients are elderly, and I see them there. I read the obits and wonder about the lives of the people

8. One day I said, "Hey, here's obituaries, lemme scan this. Hmm. OMG!"
I found that that day, the very first time I ever looked at the obits, was the day they printed the obit of my childhood doctor, Ronald Duvendack.

WEE-YERD.

13. Every single day...
...but the New York Times obits are actually verrrry well written, so they actually have some entertainment value.

14. It's one of the first things I do.
Sadly, I once learned of the death of a former co-worker when I read his obituary in my daily paper. Usually, however, I don't encounter any actual friends or acquaintances.

Since I sell books and music part-time, I more or less need to keep up with who's left us recently in the world of popular culture. People rush to the store for your CD the moment they start pouring out tributes on CNN.

And I'm something of a movie buff, so I always check for the names of actors and actresses.

And it's worth hearing about some of the wonderful leaders in the world of progressive causes. Sometimes I don't hear about them until their passings are noted in the paper. Sad, isn't it, that there's a whole area of recent history I learn about too late.

16. Yes
I'm getting to the age when many of the people I know or knew are either losing their parents or are getting sick and dying themselves. Besides that in this reptillian rag that passes for a paper reading the obits is about the only section that doesn't get my blood boiling.
