More proof that things are changing.... |
|
I just had to share my joy with you guys.
Some of you know that I'm helping with my 20th high school reunion (next month in San Antonio, TX) since I've mentioned it recently. I've volunteered to help find missing graduates.
I've been using classmates.com, our 10th reunion booklet, google, etc, and have a pretty good average so far.
Two of the folks helping to organize this have profiles on classmates that had listed them as, respectively, conservative and ULTRA-conservative.
I've really been dreading seeing them again. The girl (ULTRA-C) was EXTREMELY popular and wouldn't know me from a hole in the ground. But the guy (CON.) and I were pretty good friends. He was the quintessential science geek, but was a really nice guy.
Some weeks ago, someone on our yahoo group added the snarky comment "I'm a communist, and in November, I'll be moving to Canada" to my database entry.
So, you see that someone (I'm still not sure who) has a problem with my "Very Liberal" political affiliation displaying proudly in my profile.
Checking up on some details today, I was looking back at some people's profiles for new last name changes or other info. Guess what?
These two now have the unmistakable "I'm disenchanted with Bush" "Not Interested in Politics" showing in their profiles.
What's up, ya'll? Not quite so confident in fearless leader, anymore?
Sorry. I' must gloat for a moment.

I was a complete wallflower in high school. I would probably have gone to the prom with whoever asked me, even if it was a science geek.
But no one ever bothered. People are gonna be SHOCKED at what a loudmouthed, opinionated little cuss I am now.
"Most changed" award, anyone?

Too funny.
My 20th year is also this fall, though I won't be going. Of the 479 people I graduated with, I respected but a few and have stayed in contact only with three. Though part of me wuodl love to go back adn see all the Former Important Sports Heroes Everyone Loved, most of whom failed out of college because of stupidity and drugs, and none of whom, even many went on sports scholarships, ever managed to make even as far as a third-tier junior semi-pro team (whatever the hell they're called).
heh heh.

I'm not sure why I'm doing all this.
But here's a funny story. The main guy who's planning it-- I had a MAJOR crush on him. Huge. He was in drama and had a very sarcastic sense of humor. But it was not to be.
Several months ago when I started getting info about the reunion and he got in touch, he told me he was living in L.A. with his guy. I laughed my ass off. "It wasn't me! He's gay!"
Now we talk a lot over the phone and e-mail, and he's a great person. Liberal, of course. I don't care about what happens there. I've finally gotten past the point where I care what everyone thinks of me. I'm just thinking of it as an adventure.

All we gotta do is make sure that little ToiletBrain doesn't destroy the world in a petulant tantrum after he loses in November. Or that he doesn't rig the election to lose. I'm sure that, right now, in a totally fair and open and free election, with all votes counted once and only once, Kerry would win by a large percentage.
It just feels like it.
And in 2000, I never felt as though the election would go one way or the other - to me, it always felt tht the vote would be close. (or I should say, I *did* feel that Gore was gonna sweep, but when Gore let ToiletBrain have a free month's worth of campaigning, and then later when the debates started and I saw that Gore was acting funny, and then especially that after the first debate, in which ImplodedFartMess answered nothing and Gore did give coherent answers, and the media still called the debate in CriminalInChief's favor, then I started to know it was gonna be a close one).
