Asheville area rent suggestions? |
|
Looks like, if all goes well and we sell our house relatively soon, my husband and I will be moving to the area to check it out. We've liked it the many times we've driven through, and are thinking about renting in the area for about six months while we get a feel for the area, check out housing options, etc.
So, we'd like to rent a house -- apts. or condos not really an option -- and we have 4 cats. We'd also like to keep the rent to about $750, max., and don't need to be in Asheville proper, we'd be fine with Hendersonville, Black Mountain, etc. etc... and would like to rent a house with a little land. I'm hoping rent will be a little less if we're willing to go outside city limits (or am I nuts?)...
I've checked out (on line) the Mountain Xpress classifieds and the Asheville Citizen-Times classifieds, but wondered if any of the local Ashevillians on DU know of any opportunities? Or other places to look?
Just two people, 4 mellow cats, and a ton of books.

1. My parents are moving to Hendersonville. |

I'm from SC. I've hiked the Appalachian Trail (and other area trails) a lot in the area. I'm sure there are lots of places for cheap. Though I have no personal experience.

My husband's from Columbia, I'm from SoCal and we'd both like to move south (though I know western NC gets its fair share of snow)...
We're going down to look in a few days, just thought I'd see if there were any good rental boards, etc.
I hope your parents like H'ville! Seems like a nice community, too...

I'm just one person with three cats, but I'm looking to do the same (for less than $900 a month). Hey, maybe we'll be neighbors!

5. Getting expensive there |

and you might get a place for that price outside of the city. Jobs are pretty scarce too so be prepared. Good luck and let us know what happens. I grew up in that area and it sure is beautiful.

6. yeah, that's why we're going to rent for a few months first... |
|
check out the area, housing, etc. I've noticed some of the prices on homes for sale have been reduced, but not by much. We're looking in the triangle between Asheville, G'ville/Spartanburg, SC and Athens, GA; we're also starting our own business so if we get some angel funding, jobs won't be an issue (though if we don't get funding, jobs will most definitely be an issue)!
