Video Game Geeks: What game are you interested in right now?
Which game have you bought (or stealed :)) that you are playing these days? I just bought Joint Operations for the PC from Amazon.com after playing and loving the demo(s).

12. By 'original', you mean PS1, yes?
If so, amazing game. One of my all time favorites.

I'm digging through Xenosaga episode 1 right now. Pretty good one too, and a prequel of sorts to the Xenogears game that was one of the PS1's best RPGs.

5. I've been going retro recently
Mostly strategy games. Been playing Lords of the Realm 1 (still fun even with the stone age graphics) and Age of Empires 2. Thinking of starting up Baldur's Gate again, or even Betrayal at Krondor if I can get it to run on XP.

22. Ultima Underworld I + II
Edited on Tue Jun-29-04 03:09 AM by Kellanved
Those are fantastic; a shame that Looking Glass/Origin/EA never did a third one. But even without the "Underworld": Ultima RPGs are among the best (with the exception of '8').

Transport Tycoon Deluxe is another great game, that can be considered retro.

8. I just finished Call of Duty
and now I'm plodding through Wizardry 8 once again. (trying to finish it this time.)

I'm thinking of giving MVP 2004 a stab on the PC. I had the PS2 version but I hear there are some super PC mods for it.

I haven't heard of anything new that has me excited. Of course I'll need to upgrade my video card before I can play most of the newer stuff anyway. Joint Operations looks cool though.

10. Final Fantasy X...
I've finished playing it through for the second time, and I must say, the story is absolutly one of the best.
I still rank the FFs as follows : (yes I am a FF fanatic)
-FF7 (best story, not debatable)
-FF6 (another fantastic story with amazing characters)
-FFX (fantastic story with strong characters and flawless battle system)
-FF8 (epic and touching)
-FF4
-FF5

15. FF6 is a masterpiece
I won't give away anything (the story is incredable; it literally made me cry) , but is not FF one of the greatest literary acts out there?
As an English major, I would put FF against any literature and argue FF's merits.
Have fun! And if you think 6 is great, OMG, FF7, FF8, and FFX will be orgasmic.
Note- FF9 sucks ass.

17. I thought 9 was TERRIBLE
It was supposed to be an "old school" FF (4 characters in battle; clear "job" catagories - black/white mage, warrior, summoner, etc) but it was so forced that it was flat.
The story was also terrible IMO.
Forced nostalgia sucks...I just didn't like it.

18. the garland from ff9
is the same garland from ff1 (in ff1 he mentioned using mist to try to take over the world) and 9 was one of the worst, not manny imaginative cities, charaters go unused for large ammounts of time, hackneed "suprise" final boss (only a suprise cause he's NEVER MENTIONED) Tango Del Chocobo, what ever the hell brhaine was, and dont get me started on the Qu

19. Good points
The final boss was a total "uh oh, we need a superscary, really important sounding boss!" that was pulled out of their ass.
I don't remember why or what the final boss was or what he represented. I can remember all the other final bosses and link them to their game's theme; FF9, I cannot. Very weak.
And Qu...UGHHH, the Jar Jar of FF. :puke:

20. When I played it the first time...
I don't think I had much experience with old school FF -- maybe FFV, probably not.

So it didn't feel like 'forced' nostalgia -- it felt like a different sort of game, and in my mind the four player battle system changed the game dramatically. And I didn't mind the storyline so much, either -- yeah, sure, it felt a little too much like Disney's "Aladdin", but dammit, Vivi was cool! :freak:
