Last night my heart was broken. |
|
Last evening as pulled into the driveway of my home, my grandson and husband were sitting on the front porch. I knew immediately something was wrong. As I got out of my car, my grandson came running up and told me that two of his three miniature chiwawa's had been killed when they got out of their fenced yard and ran onto the busy street in front of his house.
Their names were Bacardi and Barbie and they only weighed about 3 and 1/2 lbs each. They were white with brown spots and everybody loved them so much. They were always kept in a special gated fenced in play yard, kinda like a very large playpen with no bottom, inside of another fenced in yard. And only were in the yard when someone was there to watch them. They were never left alone in their play yard. They were being taken inside when they somehow got under the other fence and it happen so fast that my son-in-law, daughter and a friend of theirs had no time to react. My daughter was always so careful with them, they were her babies, now she is totally distraught and blames herself for this. She says she should have picked them up one at a time and put them in the house, but she always would let them out of their play yard and they would follow her in the house right away. This time two of them decided not to.
I know accidents happen, but the driver never stopped. The driver coming the other way stopped and the driver in back of the car that hit them stopped, but the one who hit them never stopped. How can anyone do this, hit an animal and keep going. What kind of person could do this?

The only solace I can see in this is maybe the driver didn't know? Otherwise..sorry to hear this...Losing a Dog is pretty horrible...losing two in one night, well, that's big time terrible.

Twice I've seen a driver purposefully swerve to hit an animal... Once it was a group of squirrels in the road... It was clear that they weren't going to leave the road, and I had stopped and was waiting for them to move. This guy coming the other way, speeds up and runs over them. I was so shaken I couldn't even chase him down like I wanted to in retrospect.
The other was with a big rig driver on the highway. I passed a badger on the shoulder which was almost onto the highway. The truck behind me swerved onto the shoulder but the badger made it away in time. That time I did wait for the ass to get in front of me, then I called his handy 800 number and lodged a complaint.
I will never understand such total disregard for life.
...sorry for your loss... senseless

the basset hound that i had grown up with(got him when i was five) was hit by a car when i was 17. they left him in the street and when my dad came home, he had pulled himself up the driveway. he was in a lot of pain, so they put him down. i was angry at the driver, too. i'd love to know who it was.

6. It happened to one of our dogs once..while we were in mexico |
|
We hired a dog watcher, and he put them in the worng part of the yard to do their business, and she got out.. The first time she was ever out alone.. No one stopped, but then we were gone..
We never enjoyed vacations again after that..:(..

I have no idea what kind of a person could hit animals and not stop - an insensitive asshole, by chance?:grr: So sorry for your loss, and your daughter must be distraught, although of course it's not her fault. Keep telling her that.

I will pass these on to my daughter, she is so distraught and this will help her I'm sure to ease the pain she is in right now, knowing that someone else cares.

I just had to have my fur friend put to sleep yesterday after a long struggle with his hind legs and I know how badly it hurts to lose them.
My deepest sympathy to you.

When I lost my precious kitty (only six years old) in 2001, I stumbled upon a website called the rainbow bridge. For a nominal fee, one can make a virtual tribute to their "fur babies." It may be too early for your daughter's family to go there because it's a very emotional experience, but it did wonders for me. It's an absolutely beautiful website. peace.
