So, I think my co-worker is losing it
She's going through a separation, and her brother is sick. I left here at 1:00 last night and arrived at around 7:00. She was here, I said "Why are you here so early?" She said in a bouncy way "I haven't left! I figured I was here so I should get some work done."

.....um...yeaaahh

1. It hurts to be alone...
My mom went to the hospital and I was getting up at 3:30 am to get my dad off to work. After he left for work I would get dressed and go to school. I would help the janitors take down the chairs in the lunchroom, etc. I just didn't like being home alone.

2. Not the Worst Way of Dealing with a Separation
If you simply don't want to go home, work can suddenly seem very appealing.

I'm having a crisis with my girlfriend, and stayed here til midnight last night. Could have left hours earlier if I had rushed, but it just seemed more pleasant to meet the deadline in a leisurely way.

Staying at work all night is definitely unusual, though -- especially being perky about it the next morning.

4. HEyHEy, check into any support groups in your city for people going
through separation/divorce. I was lucky to live in a city with a really good peer support group and it probably saved my life. Find out if your area has any sort of thing like that and put a bug in her ear.

There are days/nights when you just don't know if it is worth the hassle. A support group put one in contact with others in the same sort of situation and also some who have gone a bit further down the process. It helps to see that how things are now is not how they will always be.

Be a pal and help scout out resources for her. She is probably just not working at her best level right now.

You are a good person.
