Poll question: Prettiest pop song ever (I MEAN it this time)
Edited on Tue Jun-29-04 01:38 PM by undisclosedlocation
Sorry I screwed up the previous poll; I'm grateful that relatively few of you saw it. This time I'll start you out with 9; any that don't have any votes by about 2:55pm Eastern I'll replace with the most popular or most convincing nominees among the replies. I'll also add an Other option then.

I'm embarrassed that my brain is blocking out female voices; feel free to nominate female singers especially, and accept my apologies that my memory apparently has a serious blockage on the distaff side. (On the other hand, most of these are done falsetto at least...)

I think For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her and Scarborough Fair/ Canticle are both prettier than Bridge over Troubled Water, but I know where the votes are. Rest assured that replies featuring either of these will be met with enthusiastic approval.

Edit: Wow! All of 'em got votes; sorry it would be unfair to change any of them now. Here's an Other option, though.:D

2. Nothing can top the Beach Boys' "All I Wanna Do" from Sunflower
That song has the most gorgeous production I've heard.

5. You included Sixpence NTR! Thanks.

That's my vote THIS time, too. Even though the list is much stronger this time. Pure Prairie League, Roxy Music and Left Bank also get e vote from me.

As for "Here Comes the Sun", I always thought "Here There and Everywhere" was the 'prettier' Beatles tune.

is an excelleny catch! As would be Brian Wilson's "Caroline, No". I would also suggest The Rascals "How Can I be Sure". A truly incandescent piece of pop.

A couple of others to consider:

Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman"

The Beatles' "Here, There & Everywhere"

The Association's "Never My Love"

The 5th Dimension's "One Less Bell To Answer"

The Cyrkle's "Turn Down Day"

25. For Glen I'd go with Gentle on My Mind
I prefer 5D's version of Never My Love, though I'll agree that while that version is bravura, The Association's is prettier. As to 5D's prettiest, I'd probably have to go with the easy listening standard Up Up & Away (ducking, running away)

It sounds like it would be about abstinence, but it's not. Their abstinence song is called "Savin' It!".
